  • Which way???

I`m in the middle of doing up a mk2 mex at the mo... As some of you know
Its a bare shell at the moment, forest arched and a big g/box tunnell.
Now i`m wanting to go for a stripped out rally style look and use it on track days, but still use for the road too...
Its going to be yellow btw.

    Want peoples opinions on the following ;

    1. Do i put a vinyl back on? Its got no sun roof and the roof is solid, i dont particularly want one on but my brother says it will look better...

    2. Do i remove the heater buldge? In the future i`m considering putting a vaux 2.0 16v in... Will removing the heater buldge give enough room for the dizzy to fit... Electronic ignition is expensive! I know they did some std without dizzy(coilpack) but these are harder and more expensive to find...
Whats your take on removing the heater buldge... Cool or Not?

    3. I`ve been having a bit of a re-think about the colour too...
    Either Signal Yellow -
Or i was thinking maybe white and badge it as a RS1800... Yes or No
Again, my brother want me to paint it silver and put a vinyl on... But i keep telling him no mex`s were painted silver as std, to which he points out it isn`t going to be std in any case.

    4. Flush the panel that runs where the wipers are(the name of it escapes me!!) or not?

Thats about it for now, but i`ll be wanting your opinions on other things!!

Vinyl dont put it on in my opinion

leave the heater bulge put a Zetec in there maybe l8r personally I would leave the Pinto an get some modded bits

Yellows good but signal orange is better or Java Green

the panel is the scuttle panel if yours is in really bad nick why not if not keep it

    cheers

That's the difference between friends and relatives (you can choose your friends!) No offence to your dad who's been helping you, but....

      - forget the vinyl roof idea. With those arches the car is meant for work not for show! Ever seen a works rally car with a BVR?

      - as for the engine, keep it Ford, m8!

      - the idea of having no heater is pretty cool - especially in winter, even if the RS heater ain't up to much!

      - if you start 'cleaning' up the scuttle grille, I'll point you in the direction of some clear rear lights and a chrome handbrake lever cover, too!

IMHO we're missing some nice wide arch flat-front replicas - how about a British Airways sponsored replica?

All of the above meant in fun and all my humble opinion!

Cheers... Thought the BVR would look odd on arched mex myself...

Point taken about the scuttle :flower: - Scuttle pannel - Cheers Brian.

You got any pics a BA sponsored mk2 dasadrew?
And which way did you say the neon washer jets are? :laughing6:

Stick in a duratec, its the engine of the future, they are producing some very good horsepower will small mods.

They're only models, but a quick overview of the paint schemes can be gleaned here:

                      Its bad... Real bad... :flower:

Took all the glue`y stuff and left over vinyl off yesterday and pained the roof today to see how badly it was rippled/dinted...

There more dints in there than i ever imagined... I`ve seen drag queens that are staighter!
The roof will never look good if its painted so looks like i have to ahve the BVR after all...

Unless i fit another roof... #

Against everyones advice/opinion and my own choice...
                      BVR it is i think....

if its that bad just do the BVR dont blame you I think you have done enough with the rest without changing the roof too

                        Brian

but you will need a darker colour not white

Yeah... I think i`m going to Brian...
I can`t change the roof as well, i dont think i have much inspiration left after all the other work...
                          Heres a few pics...
It does look a lot worse than these pics though, wonder whats happened to it in the past to make it like this??

Can anyone put a BVR on this car... See what mine will look like

                          Cheers

looking at that, a couple of dollies ( not barbie) and judisious tapping then a small skim of isopon will make it grand not looking to bad dont think I would go BVR now for a couple of hours work ? go on you know it makes sense

Theres some big kinks in it too... not really visable from the pics.
If it was only either side of the roof then it wouldn`t be too bad i agree, but its kinked and twisted all over, its real bad in the middle.

TBH it would be easier to fit a new roof, i know that sounds a little extreame but it really is that bad...
