The Aldon 'Ignitor' has been proven successfully over many years. It is the ideal choice for the race enthusiast, general road user or classic restorer. It fits entirely under the distributor cap for a neat, clean look and costs up to 40% less than other makes.
Facts about the 'Ignitor'
Operating voltage: 6v to 16v DC
Temperature range: 50 Deg.F. to 300 Deg.F.
RPM range: Full operating range of engine down to zero RPM
With the ignitor there are 30,000 to 35,000 volts available. Normal range on (OK) standard systems range from 26,000 to 27,000 volts. The 'ignitor' can be converted to a high energy system by the installation of a high energy coil and silicon HT leads. The Aldon 'Flame Thrower' coil or Lucas sports coil have both proven to be very compatible with the ignitors.
Both negative and positive earth applications are catered for. All ignitor applications are determined by the distributor make and model. The ignitor is available for most Lucas, Bosch, Motorcraft and Delco 4, 6 and 8 cylinder distributors.
NEGATIVE EARTH APPLICATIONS
1847V 4 Cyl. Bosch - Clockwise Rotation
1243 4 Cyl. Ford Motorcraft - Pinto

Gaz,
I passed your car on the AA van on the way home, looks vv nice btw, sorry about you problems though.
I would recommend you throw the Motorcraft distributor as far away as possible, and then fit a Bosch unit with the ignitor from Mark (Fasterfords).
The Motorcraft or "Vario-dwell" as it is generally known in the motor trade is a rubbish alternative to the proper Bosch unit - the baseplates and bearings wear out really quickly and throw the dwell setting out.
Put a Bosch on it - easy to get parts for too - as it's the same as all late Capri/Transit/Sierra/Granada/Scorpio pintos
