chimaera or griffiths

thinking of getting a tvr as a summer/second car for fun.
anybody had any dealings with these good or bad.
model i will be looking at will be the chimeara or griffiths.
propably 5 litre.

TVR's are kit cars, even the new ones, I was underneath a brand new one 10 years ago (Chimera, I think) and it had the brake pipes cable tied to the chassis

They look nice, but wouldn't like to comment on how good they are as a proper car, I'd tread carefully.

Ritchie, a few years ago now a friend of mine turned up in his new Griffiths 500. Bright yellow with black wheels, He said "jump in i,ll take you for a spin up the road", bearing in mind he races a Radical, then i think it was a Caterham of some description, never been as scared in all my life, So quick, thats what i would buy, if it,ll start

topgear rate both cars very well in the past but i think i'll have a 500...

Be prepared for a screw everytime you go out in it.



















Unfortunately a screw of the type you find in the footwell or the boot or the engine bay.

I had the CERBERA 4.2 v8 ,lovely cars ,very fast ,great sound, but you need a big wallet to own one , its always best to get a TVR service /stamp in the book and there is a record of any work carryed out at TVR head quarters..one good thing is they dont rust engine wise there solid , the electrics can play up from time to time thats the only down side really.. If i was loaded i would have another no dout about it

Old V8`s were good engines brother had a chimeara ,but stear well clear of tvr`s own straight 6 ,brother had a Tuscan spent more time in blackpool having engine rebuilds

I agree there dude , TVR's straight 6 engines are pants ,they suffer oil pump problems and still are on the sagairs even now

I believe early problems were with finger followers wearing away !
Was bloody quick when it was running though.
Brother contacted the origional designer of the engine and found tvr downgraded materials to save money
Interior finish was also poor, leather and carpets glued in place ,which came unstuck due to the heat coming into the interior.
Sold it a couple of years ago to a German who turned up with lots of travellers cheques
