  • my head is in the shed , carbs again

not getting any closer to getting some bike carbs , ordered in march still not ready , so i was thinking , do i go down the twin 40 route maybe with a mild road cam , don't want a car i can only drive over 3000 revs so i thought mild road maybe ,are the 40's easy to live with and will i have to loose the battery tray to the boot, would rather keep it there in the engine bay , got a 32/36 on at the moment so i should see some more ooommmmppphhhh or drivability yeah please please help my poor head as there are so many q's in there , i don't know what to do

You can still get 45's on and keep the battery under the bonnet, all be it a squeeze Gra. They will be dear to buy, but more "tried and tested" to a pinto rather than bike carbs. When new and shiny look the dogs too. Mine is quite drivable below 3000 even with a kent cam in it.
Just the odd splutter with 45's when ticking along at low revs, 30mph say. All in all they are good

      Please don't

If you've got a good head () try a Burton BF134 cam with your 32/36 carb.
Will pull from low revs until 6500 rpm. Can give you a base-setting for the carbs if you want.

grah, forget 40's on a 2.0L pinto, get 45's, they cost the same as 40's anyway, just shop about to save a few quid, or buy 2nd hand, but can be risky. choose wisely with a cam and it will still be driveable, i had the same dilemma as you 6 months ago, decided to go balls out with it, saves taking it apart again later when you want even more go, unleaded now too

all down to how much bunce you wanna spend

45's the only way to go

rich or me will give you a demonstration run at the weekend then you'll change ur mind

both cars are very driveable even with the bits on them - and im sure Lee would demonstrate aswell - 3 different cams, but all on 45's and probably totally different in the way they drive ..... but all have the GRIN factor

Taffr ,did this 38dgas just before the lakes ,what a difference ,as you said 32/36 felt strangled but the the 38 much much better ,talk to Ian he noticed the difference in mine from the passenger seat.
Got mine with a load of other parts and was already jetted for the 2 litre ,as Paul says unbolt 32 and bolt on the 38 and you can keep the std look with the air cleaner back on top.
