  • Did Zakspeed ever sell X-pack road cars.. ?

I spoke to one of the previous owners of SKK the other day, and he told me that the original owner was a squadie serving in Germany and he bought the X-pack brand new directly from Zakspeed.

Does anyone know if this was possible ? Also the X-pack was originally Bronze, and I have confirmed this by the original logbook when it came into this country, and the paint under the black currently residing on it.

Anyone help as this may be one rare RS2000 X-pack ? Maybe it was one of there demo cars !

    Thanks,
    Mark

Mk2 Xpack arches were colloquially known as "Zakspeed arches" in competition circles at the time. Their width complies with Appendix J Group 2 regulations of the mid 70s. Zakspeed ran what was effectively the works Escort programme in the (Group 2 regs) European Touring Car Championship before being more widely known for Group5 Capris and F1. Whether they were involved in making the arches sold through Ford Rallyesport dealers I know not - and the answer will probably lie in Germany.

Erich Zakowski (Zakspeed) had a regular Ford Dealership (of course an RS Dealership!) in those days if memory serves correctly.

Similar RS dealerships like Gerstmann in Oberhausen sold new X-packs, to customer-spec (IDF's, big tank, etc.) so if Zakspeed was a similar RS-dealer your car might well be from them.

Sounds quite possible that. Can you shed any light on the Bronze colour ? Was this an option in Germany ? or is it a "spezial" ?

                        Thanks,

can't get my head around that chassis number... what's it supposed to be? GCATAD? Position is very strange.
NEVER heard of a bronze (or any other metallic) original RS2000 in Germany. I bought my first one in Germany in 1980 so I was pretty much up to date on the avaiable colours then.

Have you had a look at the colour under the headlining?

I can't recall that special one-offs were available in those days either. Special colours for fleet contracts are the only specials I remember.

Good luck on the resto - looks like a few weekends more to go!
