small is beautiful ....... (thats what i keep telling Julie) ........ and i feel that smaller independent marque/madel clubs will be the way to go in the future - avo have proved it, and in a way, although this aint a club on here as such, this bb has also - i'd much rather be involved with something like this, help organise stuff in the future etc. than be part of an rsoc style club - all you ever hear of is someone trying to get the better of another or someone not agreeing with something else - blah blah blah
the lakes tour has proved the above to be so true - enthusiasts doing something for fellow enthusiasts
onwards and upwards i say

Hmmmmmmmm.......
I think the AVO have always had a bit of a hard time trying to stay afloat, I don't know what their situation is at the mo, but they're not exactly raking it in, as far as I know.
The thing is with the RSOC is that the RWD part of the club is becoming an ever decreasingly important (certainly numerically) part of the club.
What it looks like from the outside is that the RWD section feel a bit "blinged out of existence" and the owners of the newer models seem to be not quite the enthusiasts of a classic car, more keen on being the owner of something something "special" or that's just plain "expensive"
"Seemingly" resulting in all these petty squabbles, maybe it's not like that????
It maybe time for the majority of RWD owners to move on to clubs and forums like this one and let the "bulk" of the RSOC carry on, but smaller groups have less power to make things happen, as they haven't got the resources, but it seems an organisation (as the RSOC seems to have become) is more interested in it's internal politics and nepotism than answering the needs and requests of it's membership

why do clubs have to "rake it in" all of the time ???????????
i know for a fact that an rs regional group im in has best part of 2.5k sat in the bank doing sweet **** all and theyve put a halt to a coloured bi-monthly newsletter because it "costs too much" (£30) and people just throw them away
hope we havent strayed away from the topic, but it just annoys me to see this sort of thing going on

What I meant was the AVO club aren't necessarily the best example of a small independent owners club. They've survived (thanks mainly to it's members taking on tasks for the club and getting no reinbursement for it)
whereas the RSOC has so many members it even has the luxury of money floating around without knowing or being able to decide what to do with it all.
Small groups/clubs can survive but need active support from it's members but large clubs can afford to be somewhat aloof towards it's membership and still they come back for more. I wonder how many people support both AVO and the RSOC, I'll bet fewer and fewer AVO lads chuck money at the RSOC these days.
