  • Busy day on the yellow peril

The new yellow peril chucked a paddy the other week, so another T9 was required to sort out the problem.

Got one off the shelf (the old one from my Pinto'd Harrier)

New Valeo clutch from work (£48 all in)

    New tailshaft oil seal.

Old box was already out and clutch fitted, so I just needed a hand to wiggle the replacement in.
So I picked Mogsmex up at his place at about 9am, off to Maccy D's for breakfast and then down to the workshop for a bit of gearbox wiggling.

We looked at the tunnel and decided to drop the front X-member down off the bolts to give a bit more room - all the bolts were non standard sizes - bit of a worry, as we didn't know if they were just wedged in the holes or properly re-threaded.

All came out ok, gearbox re-fitted a treat, jacked the x-member back up and re fitted the bolts.

You know what's coming now :

One of the o/s bolts pulled the thread out of the chassis rail

I just need to drill it out for an M12 tap : I've got the tap, I've got the bolt - have I got an 11 (ish) mm drill ?

    No fecking chance

Another job for tomorrow evening then
    Cheers Rob.

I did suggest my tried and tested "weld the x member to the chassis rail" rework (performed on my mk2 mexico when I was 17 and a bit green ) but Rob didnt seem keen

Job jobbed, x-member now held on with the correct number of bolts

When the engine and box come out next time for the bay to be painted(which will be AFTER the Lakes tour) I will do the proper repair with some sleeves and long bolts etc.
        Cheers Rob.
