And a few more photos. Plan is to transfer most items across from the old shell over the next 2 weeks so i will put up some more photos as we go.

acheyford said "us irish can do anything"

        I love Ireland,

I have fond memories of competing in the West Cork Rally in the late 70's. Our plan is to come over again and spectate on the RAC rally later this year 2007 and also come over to Ireland to catch up with some motorsport contacts their.

We then plan to come over to compete in the 2008 RAC rally bringing one of my cars over for the event, always been a lifelong dream of mine to "do the RAC"

I stood next to the car, (hero seated inside!) at the top of the Wiscombe Park stage of the '76 RAC. It was run DOWNHILL!!
The Stratos was fantastic but Clark was unbelievable, well sideways, straightened-out for the narrow bridge, sideways again. Complete mastery of his trade.
One of the most memorable moments on many dozens of rallies.
Bought the model of his Cossak car, in Venice!!? There is a model shop by the Rialto bridge, it certainly "surprised" the wife!
Nice to see your motor, brings back good memories.
                  Cheers!
                  Simon.

Would have waved when we went past on stage if I'd known......

Anorak question. Why did Ford fit the top auxiliary lights inside front grille cut-outs on 76 RAC and never again? (they were new cars for that event, whatever registrations used)
Sad that so few now remember Pentti Airrikkala was running away with that rally ahead of all the works cars.

they were not allowed to have bracketed spotlights ? for safety reasons

No - all others had normal lights. Point is they could have been excluded for non-homologated changes to bodywork/trim.

the car was a converted RS2000 so originally had 4 headlights so still had to have them at scrutineering

No these were newly built RS1800s.
I never understood why they did it as it made changing them a b*astard of a job. Probably "trying it on" as the beginning of the war with Fiat. The 131 Abarth had something similar, along with a host of other things of dubious homologation legality, and things got increasingly bitter, culminating in the Alan Wilkinson 79 Monte Escorts which drove a horse and cart through the regs and got away with it because Fiat did worse?
