The balance weight of trailer mustn't exceed the tow bar rating. This can be found in the door jamb of most modern cars or on tow bar itself. Usually 50 to 150 kgs

Mex weighs 950(ish)
Braked trailer weighs 500kg
Mathematics suggest I'm just in The Golf tows really well and has no problems at all.
