Wireless LAN is not on board it's an accessory in a mini PCI slot, which is not really up to date, should really be onboard.

What does this mean ??.Can I get it fitted to this machine as an add on ?

      Accessories
      Dell™ Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini-PCI Card (for AMD Processors)

Not a big problem, you can buy dongles / a USB stick that you can use for WLAN for example, just saying that if I was buying a laptop I'd want it to built in, especially if kiddies are to be using it.

You should be able to specify that DELL construct your laptop with this "accessory" which will put the price up of course!

This may however affect the system memory as (as far as I know) it takes up one of the memory slots on the motherboard, so watch that

BTW forgot to mention that in the specs you posted up it doesn't show the speed of the processor, obviously the higher the frequency in Ghz the faster the processor, which doesn't necessarily equate to a better computer, but you ought to try to get the fastest you can for the money.

I have wireless PCI and it makes no difference from my USB dongle or the onboard, as you are only trying to transfer a maximum of 108mb per sec the fastest current Wireless home routers

I only have a 54g card and still get 6 meg throughput with my broadband, so save your money and stay with the pci

current PCI bus can transfer 1066 Mbytes/sec how fast do you want to go ???

Wireless only transfers at 54 Mbp/sec anyway

As I said it's not the end of the world, but is better having it onboard especially if kids are using it, a dongle also taking up a USB port, easier to loose damage etc etc. Just saying like
