Are you looking to go for a one make system or stay with separates?
This should depend on the size of the room...
If you're going for a one make system Denon produce very good kit at minimal cost or if you're going for separates (which I assume you will be give your previous stuff) get a copy of 'what hifi' magazine as the high street guys (Richer Sound etc) have a different price policy in the magazine vs if you walk in off the street.
My pearl of wisdom is to split your budget 50/25/25% cd/amp/speakers. Get the best/most modern cd (or whatever source you want) and don't be put off of buying 'last seasons' amp/speakers as realistically their advancement is largely looks as the technology does not advance anywhere near as fast as the music source (cd/etc).
Enjoy! And go listern to everything before you buy, most recommendations are crap and personal..
