16, yellow mk2 1.1. huh 912n, it had run out of tax and I was going to get it back on the road, but unfortunately I didn't (legally ) and eventually went to a mate for parts.

16 mk1 1100L given to me for the price of the tax disk £70 ,if i remember right ,but had to be passed to my brother when he passed his test 2 years later.Then onto youngest brother when he passed.NTE 710 K replaced 3 clutches ,couple of doors off mates right off, couple of wings grills lights etc after prangs learnt alot about cars from that one till it finally died.
Then mk2 pop plus RBW 440 P in metalic green then MK4 Tina 2.0 GL before going into Co. cars till i got the RS just over a year ago.

18 and went and got a 13 pop plus t reg 2door, the floor was in need of some/lots of TLC. but was good fun

my first mk2 was when i was 14/15, it was a 2 dr dark blue 1.1 pop plus which was fitted with a 1.3.
it had xr3 front seats and was a project for me ( with my dads help ) to have ready for the road for when i was 17.
it got a wee play around the forest where i lived at week ends too.

i sold it for some unknown reason to a guy from glasgow who said he was going to race it. never heared anything more of it.

I was 21 - 1973 Daytona Yellow Escort 1300 Sport, 3 months old, 1 owner 4,000 mls, still with some wax on the front panel. I paid £965 for it from the garage I worked at. It had the optional cloth seats in grey, and the kent engine was lovely and smooth, they looked like an RS1600. Four years later in mint condition I sold it for £1040, with about 48,000 mls on the clock. The second owner after me, painted it black and then smashed it to pieces.
They are so rare now, I would love one again, as well as the RS of course!

my first car at 17 was a mk2 1300 pop, UAB 176R. it was beige, but after i rolled it (two weeks into driving) i noticed under the beige was the same purple they used on the 1300e's. so i'm guessing a few early mk2's left the factory in mk1 hues

They did indeed, I'd be very surprised to think a MkII had Purple Velvet (only 1300 E). Modena and the like were def used, and the early MkII's had grey wiring loom tape like the Mk1's and the "tin" rear firewall.
I do remember thinking about it a purple but don't know if it was a proper Mk1 colour.
