  • Advice re Cherished Number Transfer

Alright everyone on here, long time no post !

Found myself a nice plate on a old pre 62 tractor , have all docs and only thing it states is historic vehicle..No mention of non transferable . More or less like any mk1 mex, twink or bda pre 73 log book.

Big question is can i transfer this to my car and no am not putting it on mk1 , but it would look good though.

Has anybody transfered a plate of late and if so any idea of time to change over and what forms are required.

Learn how to retain a number plate online and by post. Successful applications will be issued with a new retention certificate (V778) from DVLA

You should also check to make sure that the conditions for the transfer and retention schemes can be compiled with. These conditions are as follows :-

Vehicles must be available for inspection.
The inspection helps to verify entitlement to the registration number being transferred / retained. Both the donor (the vehicle giving up the number) and the recipient (the vehicle receiving the number) may be called for inspection.
Vehicles must be subject to MOT / HGV test

Non-testable vehicles such as agricultural tractors and milk floats, for example, are outside the scope of the schemes. Only testable vehicles can participate in transfers and retentions and valid test certificates must be sent with applications

Buy your private number plate online with New Reg - Search from over 72 million cherished, private plates & DVLA registrations. Customise your order with our advanced number plate builder. Finance available as well as our lowest price guarantee on private reg plates!

Had one on my golf last year. Was the old plate from the Mexico as I wanted the original one back. Was a complete ball ache to do as before they could put the original plate back on the Mex it had to undergo a full inspection from the DVLA to verify it was the original car. Plate swap was £80 and should take about a week if you are lucky.

Usually a piece of cake... Go down to your local DVLA office, fill in a form hand over £80 sorted... I have never had a vehicle inspected yet !!

I've had 4 inspected on plate transfrers, never took more than 3 mins, all they've ever done is check the chassis number against the V5, do they give susspect cars a full inspection then? i know escorts are/have been rung to death
