  • Sat Nav

Have just received my update DVD for City Navigator NT Europe v9 for my Garmin Nuvi. When I tried to install the mapping I couldn't unlock the map code so contacted their support team. They said I had to pay an additional $75 in order to obtain the unlock code Really wasn't happy about this as when I bought the Nuvi I was assured that there would be no additional costs involved as to future upgrading of software/maps etc. Even with the update disc there was no mention of a "Fee" to be paid. Unit wasn't cheap either at £500 including Traffic Master.

What Sat navs do you all use and do you have to pay for any upgrades (Speed Camera/POI not included)

    I now use a TomTom 910

Have had TomTom Go and TomTom 500

Software updates are free from Tom Tom

POI's are all free from Pocket GPS

Speed Camera I pay £18 a year from Pocket GPS and get monthly Updates

I also (due to my job) subscribe to live traffic on TomTom via GPRS on my mobile £30 per year - very useful IMHO

If I upgrade a map then this is about £50

And now Tom Tom have introduced this FM Transmitter

Of course you DO NOT have to use the features as I do and Pocket GPS do a lot of freebies enough to keep you happy

Use pocket GPS for all my POI's Speed camera's. Great site to use. How often are the map updates released for the Tom Tom Dave??? Traffic master on the Garmin is a one off payment for life.

i have a NAVMAN icn520, had it a few years now, never had a problem. i used pocket gps.com for my speed camera locations too. i have only just found there is a geezer on ebay, who sells software for only a few quid to convert it into a full PDA plus satnav. i guess its all the same inside, but certain bits get locked out. there was a couple of other bits he was doing too.
have a look for satnav software upgrades on ebay kev

Have a MIO 710 with maps of Europe. Map updates are free, includes speed-camera database, traffic info is free the 1st year. List price overhere is about 240 GBP.
Unlocked the thing (its basicly a PDA) and installed TomTom on it as well (that has slightly more uptodate maps).
