  • Who runs without a cambelt cover?

Who runs there car without the cambelt cover in place?

Is it safe to do so ? I fitted a cambelt cover but it rattled and the pully was catching on it so i took it off
I am having a red kent vernier fitted soon so i dont really want to refit the cover .

I did but it fails the MOT with it off and if something lifts from the road you could snap the cambelt and ruin your engine

i run without a cover and never had a problem with the mot guy?
but i do agree with Banish@t about the road crap problem , it would only take a stone to flick up and get trapped and whammo.
plus i sh@t myself any time i have to do any tinkering with the engine when its running incase i loose a finger or similar!
so i suppose i should get round to fitting one, does anybody know if the 1.6 ltr pinto cover fit a 2 ltr as thats the only one i have.

The cover rattles if metal touches metal, so make sure all the plastic insulators, rubber grommets and the rubber sticky tape strips are all in good condition and in place. Check clearances at the top between camcover and timing belt cover. Should be ok then to keep using the cover but without rattles.

After cleaning up & painting a 1.6 cover i found that the bloody thing is just a wee bit too small,, so u will need a 2.0 one!!!

Never run on road without it (although i have "run in" hillclimb engines on the road without) and never run a forest rally without. Its so easy to fit its not worth the risk.

It just doesnt seem right hiding your nice coloured verniers behind a rattly cambelt cover :cyclops:
