i have used this stuff on a few motorbikes, you get a few passive transponders to either inject or glue in places, these can be read by equipment that the fuzz have, also included is a resin, containing thousands of teeny dots, with an id number on them, the resin is flourescent, and when a dot is identified using special lights, it can be read under a microscope, if the product is registered in your name, then you'll get it back

I persoanally would make sure the chassis number is stamped into all the major structural panels of the car. As well as each section of chassis rail.

You could also stamp the last 5 or 6 digits into the seat frames, steering column, pedal box etc... I use the chassis number as an example but think it is the best way of ensuring your car keeps its ID

It's easier when you build cars as you know what panels have been replaced or where you have made repairs that no one else would know about. plus most of us take photos of these areas & that would always stand up as strong evidence on a car that is ID less.

Imagine having your car stolen then trying to prove it belongs to you, without number plates vin tags or top plate stamped.

It's certainly worth making a concious effort to ID your car.
