  • Final straw, worst thing ever has just happened to the RS pic

The jack has just gone through the floor of the RS2000, not really sure how it all happened ...I was just letting the jack down when suddenly the car fell and the jack went straight through the floor ...This is a bastard really as the floowas very solid and now i am going to have to have a plate welded in , the car has never had any welding at all so its quite a blow .
After one thing and another this has really p155ed me off

A few more oics of the engine bay to date ...This is what makes all the downfalls worth the time and effort

And one just to show you how low the car has dropped after having the springs powder coated

Thanks for the kind the replys .

The most annoying thing is ,is the fact that i have done loads of work on the car jacking it up countless times and then right at the end of doing all the work this happens , i had it jacked up on the chassis rail with wood between the floor and the jack and a axle stand as well , i just jacked it up a inch to get out the axle stand ,removed the stand and the all of a sudden the car dropped , and as they say "the rest is history"

What will be the best way to repair the damage ?

Weld a plate on under the car ?

              on top of the floor?

              or underneath and inside?

Then buy some of that dynamat stuff that the ICE boys use and stick that to the floor?

                Bummer !

I'd actually be tempted not to plate it at all. Dolly it back in place and weld along the tear.

I know it sounds like work, but....

                  1. Buy a repair floor panel section
                  2. Cut out the damaged bit neatly
                  3. Cut out a panel from the repair panel about 15mm larger all round
                  4. Joddle the repair panel so that it has a flange which sits inside the car. The underside is then flush with the old panel
                  5. Weld in with simulated spot welds (or the real thing if you can)
                  6. Dress off welding
                  7. lead fill the underside.
                  8. fit tar sound deadening pad to inside

To do the joddling you need a joddling tool which Machine Mart sell fairly cheaply. It puts a step onto the panel edge so you can have an overlap, and one side flush with the original panel.

If you do 1. 2. & 3. a body shop should do the rest quite cheaply. I did it all myself on my car and it worked a treat. You can see how neat the flange is inside the car and outside there is no trace.

You can butt weld the torn bit into the car but it will be a bugger trying to beat it flat and it will be programmed to (maybe) fail along the weld sometime.

By the way, I shall refrain from mentioning The Flintstones at this point (oh, s**t, I just did!)

yeah i can appreciate how annoyed you must be at what has happened, but be grateful you weren't underneath it your self, or you would need patching up now!
