  • a RESULT for Dave ;)

Congrats m8, just looked at the Log Book form in the new RN and the new rule is

Under no circumstances can Working Class cars be trailored to any regional day.
but i take it still the ND

I must put the record straight !!

My gripe is NOT trailers as nobody has trailered for the last 2 years (and possibly never have) in Pre 81 Working Class !

My gripe is WHAT CONSTITUTES "WORKING CLASS" ?

My definition of Working Class is a car that is used more than JUST to travel to and from RS regional / National Day shows, Classic Cars Show displays and the odd run out etc

Having read the article in Rallye News how is anyone in their right mind going to put their "USED" RS2000 MKII up against OEC in WORKING CLASS ?

If what Karl has done is what is required to compete in WORKING CLASS then there must be another category added to cater for people who USE their cars on a daily basis or shall we at least say frequently !

Most of the way through the article (and I must add so did Classic Ford !) it states the car competed and won all the shows it entered in CONCOURS,
it DID NOT it won whilst showing in WORKING CLASS.

OEC is good enough to win CONCOURS - put it in the class it deserves to win !

    Comment please !!

my apologies Dave, i got into my head somewhere that these guys were trailering there cars in working class :? :?

a agree with you m8, surely the simple answer would be to up the points on the miles so that peeps who use there car daily really rake those extra points in

Mr Trucker I would gladly lose to a "USED" car any day of the week.

My car is NOT worthy of winning I just enjoy taking part - but how can the RSOC encourage new blood into the sport of showing their cars when cars are allowed in totally the wrong class of competition ??

The RSOC have got to wake up and realise what is going on !! BUT WILL THEY ?

All I want to see at shows is loads of MKII's but who is going to show when they are up against such stunning cars as OEC when OEC should be in Standard class ??

agreed, i'm not slagging the owner of OEC of but its an easy win putting it in working class from what i've seen it wouldn't stand a chance in "standard class" well thats if anyone turns up!!! and i aint even seen ricki's car yet, hopefully this year though

maybe if they win ND working class they should have to compete in standard next season?

MEXIT - you know it takes more than that to upset me , remember I know all the bodges that I did to get OEC finished in the first place ,it takes a lot to turn an 1100 Pop into an RS !! So I can't blame Karl for redoing the car now (11 years on)

Isn't Springtime great , the birds are mating , the lambs are jumping and the concours boys are arguing. To put everyone right , including 'Ford Heritage' who did the original article on OEC many years ago, I did show OEC in working class, never ever has the car been shown in full concours. It wouldn't have stood a chance against RUDIT and BCG who were still being shown at that time , along with YHH610T and MUT84.

Back to the present and there is a problem, OEC is without doubt the cleanest car in working class (at present !), but, and its a big but, no way is it clean enough to challenge for outright wins in Full Concours. To do this Karl would have to strip the underside and start painting again and then the car would probably become another garage ornament instead of supporting the shows as he does now, that then would be another one gone from the shows.

There can be very few people now who can hold their hands up and say that their mk2 is their only car, used everyday rain or shine, covering maybe 10k miles a year, I find it hard to believe most of the post 81 working class cars or even the working Cossies are used everyday.
Concours is a ball ache, I've done it from all side, showing, organising and judging and I would happily see the back of it and just have a weekends get together and a crack. We will never resolve working class, I judged at the first ND at Silverstone, we were told by the comittee if there were cars on show that wern't true concours cars we could have them removed from the arena. I opened the boot of a mk2 and lifted the carpet...I could see my feet through the holes in the floor !!!

Do we really want to fall out over a £2 trophy , are we MK2 boys not better than that ? Next year my new project will be out. It will be better than OEC (maybe), but I will be happy to take it to the shows , have a chat with Mexit , Dave , Karl and anyone who wishes to talk MK2's and if I don't go home with a trophy I won't give a s#*t, I have never kept any trophies that I won anyway !!

Feel free to comment about this post , but

                        Hi Paul

Its good that you can take the time to add a mature and thorough answer to this question.

Unless I can be proven to otherwise a "Working Class" car has GOT to be used for reasons other than shows, press days, the odd ride out etc etc

There are other cars in W/C that DO NOT USE their car at all and Steve Minshall along with the RSOC have got to moniter "Off Season" mileage.
I personally have done near 1000 off season mileage and 4500 show mileage in 2002.

I do not expect track days to be everyones taste but again I have a go !

SKC will never win whilst I am cleaning it (lol lol) but all any new entrants see when looking at OEC is this - "I need £6000.00 to get near to that standard"

THIS IS NOT THE SPIRIT OF WORKING CLASS

thought i would have a wee say in this.i attended the very first show when the aberdeen group started "working class".back then it was to give boys whos rs was used but who strived to keep it on the road in nice condition a chance of some reward.after this i became disallusioned with the rs club when all the girlie bitching started.Paul i well remember a lot of us driving down just for run and a bit of friendly banter to your Cumbria group meetings.this and all the great camping weekends attending shows around the country every week.my wages used to all go on my car every week, but i have some great memories of helping friends getting the cars ready through the night just to attend shows .this is what the spirit of the club was about, a great big family.i was saddened when attending my first show in years at strathclyde park to hear" they wheels are not the right date stamp "etc etc.and i was only parking in the car park.I won a couple of trophys years ago in working class but my car was used everyday and sat in a busy street every night.the two rs2000 at strathclyde park were certainly not "working cars".i would love to attend some shows in future but i am put off as my car is not by any means mint but it is simply a tidy car i like to drive.i hope i have not ranted too much,i look forward to some answers to my comments.for ever old school
