if you work out how much the panels are for this car and then try and weld it all and paint it you will be over 6K easy....anyone how has restored a mk1 or mk2 will tell you thissigpiccheeRS paul

i know what your saying paul....i think its pretty hard to justify an asking price of that much.....whats an RS worth now then????? ......its just gone mad totally mad , ive been checking out cars from down under & there are a few guys in ireland that import them but the add will usually read " no rust, rot free car, mint condition"....u go look at it & you could put your finger threw the panels.....its €2k just to get the car here by freight & then the price of the car....cars start at €5.5k here.....

Then you add a contradictory statement above saying a 5500euro Mk2 is not a rot free car. But a rot free mk1 is not worth 6K
The other thing to consider with the guys importing stuff is.- Do you realise if you are travelling to Australia or New Zeland, How much the air fare is, then the amount of miles you have to travel to view the cars. Then need tranporting to the nearest port that ships to the UK.
- If you don't go yourself, how much it costs for an agent to act on your behalf. Then are they clued up enough to trust them to select the right vehicle(s)
- When you ship them you can not just roll them off the boat this end. There are import duties & VAT to add to you initial purchase price. Then you have still got to MOT & register the car.
- So to sum up. Paul I think you've had a right good buy mate.

If you had a complete but rotten Twin Cam & stuck it into that shell..
The last reshelled Twink I know of, recently changed hands for in excess of 14K & the prices have gone up since then.
All Export shells were not type 49 shells, but Heavy Duty shells.
The type 49 bits they got were:- Reinforced Strut Tops.
- Wing Mounting Rail to Strut Cup Supports.
- Fillets on the bottom of the Strut towers.
- Skids on the Chassis Rails.
- Studs in the boot floor. ( not all cars had the studs but the ones I've seen without have all been LHD for some reason )
