  • Just been diagnosed with....

    Shingles !

I thought only old codgers like Lee Bishop got it but apparently not.

I'll say this much though - it ****ING HURTS !

Feels like my skin is on fire and every so often some bastard comes up and slashes the affected area with a stanley knife. Quack says it will last up to 2 weeks.

Worst bit was going to the chemist to collect the drugs to help cure it - apparently, they are the same that are used to treat genital herpes - I wondered why the girl behind the counter gave me a funny look.

    Not a happy bunny today

Not in any area of my body that would be of any practical use though

did you get told its part of the chicken pox virus, the virus lives in your nervous system, and will do for the rest of your life!! the body is able to surpress it and keep it at bay most of the time, but if you immune system get weakened, or you feel rundown, it resurfaces in 'bands' eminating in horizontal bands from the spinal column, or if you are really unlucky, you can get it on your head, and if you are really really unlucky, you can get it on your eye, in get it internally!!
nothing to be ashamed of. a bloke i work with, caught chicken pox off his son, just as he was getting over it, shingles set in!! not nice.

                      get well soon mate

                            Hi,

Don't know about shingles....although I'm sure it's "horrific".......but I got diagnosed with "dry eyes" about a year ago......it just came out the blue.......and I'm telling you it is life changing......everything revolves around it. Been in hospital about 12 times in last year. No cure.............

                            Ian.

That's bad news mate, surprising how something that sounds so 'small' can affect your life.

Thanks to everyone else for your nice messages, especially 'Dr. Lee' - don't really think you're an old codger mate !!!
