  • Mk2 Aesthetic and design

Speaking to a fellow RS admirer recently, who told me a guy he knew had a mk2 RS (garaged but part of the internal living space), with seats close by where he would sit and just look at the car. It's never driven (hardly any miles apparently).

Cant argue with that, as i think, the mk2 is escort and the RS as a very beautiful piece of design. Even better to drive as well!

In fact i prefer it to the usual exotica that we see on TV and in the motoring press, i cant stand the gaudiness of Porsche and Ferrari etc, genuinely.

But who was the driving force in the 'Brenda' and RS design, i would love to know his name, and whether Ford recognised what he and his team did.

I know most people on here go for the image of drive it hard and fast, but i'm with your friends friend on this one and i purely like the rs 2 for its looks and design. Not sure about just sitting there looking at it all night, but sometimes when i had my last one,i found myself just polishing her nearly every other night (i need to get out more!) and it made me feel relaxed (insert own gag here...)
Basiclly, speed doesn't bother me,its the looks and the whole retro chic of it all.

I love the whole package, its just.........perfect really.

As a kid i just loved the back-end design of the RS, and i used to love (doors open) just looking down the end of the quarter panel where the door connects to the quarter panel. Tres sad i know.

But even now at 38, when i see my mates RS in the garage, it still inspires the same feelings, though it now looks so vulnerable and tiny compared to modern cars.

By the way, my 13 year old son loves them, and he's only seen one in the flesh, and i can honestly say he's not brainwashed, cos i've not had one for 6 years.

Give me half an hour, i've a third of me bottle of wine left. I can get steamier about some of my 'Jane Eyre' moments with mk2s down the years.

Sorry to moisten your chammy RS2!!!
