  • Copyrite can I do anything ??

Gra had just called me to say that a guy in NZ is selling RS2000 stripes, and he has stolen the photo's of my website as they are of my old RS2000.

I did have a Copyrite logo on my site when it was running, so can I do anything ?

    Here's the link.

I'm not an expert on Copright but I believe you have to have your product/identity etc. registered with them before you can try and enforce it.

If it were me, I'd write to the guy and hask him nicely to remove the artwork, if he refuses to do so, spend £50 on getting a solicitor to write to him threatening legal action - it should be enough !

I agree, does it really matter, are you loosing out financially because of it.
Your car is obviously famous at the otherside of the world which can't be bad for the confidence in the quality of your resto.

....... famous on the other side of the world ? great !!!!!

would love to know how many sets he's gonna sell cos they'll hardly be queing up for them over there

financially it probably dont matter, but i guess it would have been nice for them to ask if they could use the pictures - i know anything on this "information highway" is up for grabs or to "borrow", but its the principle of the matter

i guess we all download pics, but surely theres a difference with using them for profit making

had the same thing with a picture "borrowed" off the dorset site after last years rsoc appearing in someones gallery - but i guess theres not a lot you can do about

surely you are all in it for the cars and the people.

id be flattered if someone used a picture of my car or i found a picture of it in a magazine or something, not whining about how its an abuse of my rights and all that bollocks.

I'm a web designer and come across this sort of stuff quite often - the rule of thumb is if you don't want it stolen, don't put it on the web. Harsh but true.

                        It is annoying though.

It don't bother me like, but its common curtasey if your using someones elses pic to make money, IMO..

                          Got a reply of him;

                          Hello Mark,
Due to many claims same as yours, we only download photos that are not copyright protected. Either this particular car has had several owner changes recently but you are 3rd person to claim ownership of this car. It is a very tidy example and credit to whoever actually owns it.
                          Thanks

At least you got a reply.

Under UK law, any piece of artwork (including photograps) are protected by copyright automaticaly and do not have to be marked as such.

As for the car changing owner several times, the owner of the car does not have copyright over the photo. The person who took the photo does.

Just think of the logistics of newspaper photgraphers having to get permission from a celebrity after secretly taking a topless photo of them -

But as the person is not in the UK, who knows ????
It would just be nice to recieve some credit that the pics were originally yours that they have used.
