thought i would put my tuppence worth in even though as Rab pointed out i have moved over to the dark side cheers m8, old skool motors have always been my passion and always will be, anyway here goes.

i think theres no doubt the standard of cars in concours has got better year on year, but you can still get enjoyment out of showing without winning, i competed beside deepest on many occasions and knew i would never beat Neil but would still travel a couple of hundred miles to a show as i enjoy the whole weekend.

As i have said before the RSOC provides the basis and its up to the members what they get out of it. no articles of old skool interest in rallye news, then send some in, i know i should have too. Use the forum regular and i would think it would be one of the busiest sections on the bb, thus giving old skool owners more clout in the club.

Go to the shows and if you dont want to enter concours you can park on your local groups clubstand rather than the carpark. Get involved with your local groups and get more from them and the club.

Finally David you say all you experienced was bitching and no one talking to strangers at the shows you went to, but you cant have talked to any one in the Central group as we have a very wide spectrum of members from as far apart as north of Aberdeen to Ayrshire who actively attend events without being able to make the meetnights, as has been witnessed at shows all over the country courtesy of the Team Scotland t shirts. So i reckon contrary to what you may have heard, we must be doing something right the profile of our local group is probably at its highest and its members are more active than at any time since I have been a member.

cheers greetings from the dark side

Well a must agree with Mr Chisholm it is time the fun was put back into the regional day shows. As you will all know at the Cumbria show this year we made a week end of it with the lakes tour open to oldskool cars that’s mk1 mk2 escorts some which were not rs vehicles but everybody that entered had a real fun day out with there car.
Nobody was picking at there car and finding faults we put them all together at the top of the show ground I got one member to go and find a 60s 70s 80s best of the tour and that was it all were happy and all had a very good week end isn’t that what it’s all about lets see these cars being used not everybody wants to do track days and at the same time not everybody wants to show there car in concours.
I will be the first to put my hand up and say some of the regional days I have been to this year have been a bit boring the concours is dieing and as far as the older rs cars are concerned lets face it some are twenty five plus and take a lot of keeping in the standard needed for the RS concours , with new spare parts getting harder to find for the old escorts now it is becoming impossible.
So on that note myself I think we should have an area at shows for mk1s mk2s rs 2000, mexicos, and go back to the days where it was all a bit of fun and not so serious, 1st 2nd 3rd places no undersides judged just the quality of the cars and pride of ownership otherwise as far as I can see in a couple years all the older rs cars will be going to the classic shows and not the rsoc shows?

What can the RSOC do to encourage "Old Skool" owners to return to what is the Premier RS car club out there?
LISTEN TO WHAT THE OLD SKOOL MEMBERS WANT?
And that’s not a display at national day that’s going to cost £10 how can you expect people to pay that to display there car is beyond me?
It should be mk1/ mk2 display area free to all mk1 rs 2000 & Mexico, mk2 rs 2000, mk2 Mexico and rs1800 and the display would be full.
We need more input from our registrar’s I have had people on the phone to me asking me if I can value there car for them. None of the registrars showed any interest in the lakes tour what so ever what’s up with them all do you not like getting your cars wet bet there too shiney ??
Come on it’s time something was done or the RSOC will not have any old skool cars at the shows at all.
More encouragement by registrars at regional day shows less criticism national day last year the only mk2 Mexico in the show and he was banned for a year
What was that all about a change of registration number so what people do it all the time it’s his car he can do what he wants with it so for the rest of this year no mk2 mexicos in the concours who suffered for that then the paying public that go to the shows to see cars of that standard.

I have to agree about the "Fun" element being missing.

I know that Andy Edwards' old Mk2 Cosworth which won modified concours at National day in 2004 was excluded from taking part in National day 2005, even though it had changed owners, unfortunately the new owners' surname is Edwards so he was accused of pulling a fast one and excluded.

I took it up with the concours organiser and was basically told to **** off and mind my own business.

Great attitude, and not one that makes me want to show my Mk2's at National day in the future.
                Cheers Rob.

£10 to get your Mk2 onto a dusty "show area" - No way

Having your car criticised by every gimp in the viscinity - No chance

                    Spending a £30 k on a Mk2 Escort that you can't drive - No thanks

Going to a show where every one has a laugh, helps out their Mates with a few pointers/spare bits/technical advice - Yes please.

Having a barbeque and a good drink up in the afternoon before an evening of banter - I'm in.

Taking a drive out in the countryside on a summers day with a few other enthusiasts - That'll do for me.
                    Cheers Rob.

i showed beside that car both years at national day and as a previous winner in 2004 it should have been entered in the master class section at the 2005 show as had happened with Neil the previous year. As far as i am aware that is what the organisers wanted the owner to do, to enter in masterclass however he declined.

I think they are trying to address some of the issues of getting people in to concours with some of the new classes introduced this year for beginners but we will just have to wait and see if they work.
As to how you get more old skool cars to go i dont know, there are plenty up our way and we have a very diverse and active local group but few if any attend the meets

                        spot on Rob

we have acheived this through Scottish Old Skool Escorts and Steve Ogle of Cumbria and can recommend this to anyone..Cumbria tour and Kames trackday were the best car weekends in years!

i've not been to an rsoc show for about 3 years, i was just saying the reasons i didnt rejoin.
like i said i wasnt the only one who felt "left out" at a show and i dont beleave things i hear, i find them out for myself.
i've seen that team scotland are doing very well for themselves and all the best to them all.
just one thing im wondering though and dont take it the wrong way or be offended.
why is there a team scotland within the rsoc? is being in the rsoc alone not good enough or is it just a pride thing?
