  • Serious RSOC Question !!!!!!

Ok there have been lots of threads and replies (I start most of em ! - lol lol) that ask questions relevant to the RSOC

What I want to know is :-

    Q. What can the RSOC do to encourage "Old Skool" owners to return to what is the Premier RS car club out there ?

I do not want this thread turning into a slagging off or personal attack on any club individuals etc (even though they may or may not deserve it) if you have something relevant and constructive to add please be as frank as possible.

Othe clubs do exist and everybody has a choice which club/s they pay their money to !

All I can say is this thread WILL be monitored by members of the RSOC committee and I have been promised that positive critisism will be listened to.

Who knows this could be the beginning of a new era for Old Skool within the RSOC !

Make regional days for the members !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All Cars should turn up and be on show , concours area would then be show area,,,, which would be rows of mk1's , mk2,s mk3,s up to latest.

If you want to enter concours competion you sign on for it , otherwise park up and enjoy , loose the serious touch before club goes pop......

Am sure so many would rejoin and enjoy !!!!!!!!

Quote from a well known RS200 owner today.......... "I have had it,
people saying its not clean enough to be in concours , why bother" , say
no more exactly the way its going , respect to a guy who brings 40k+ of
hardware to get coments like this, no the wonder he is selling up ,
thats my point concours far to serious ! Rs shows SHOULD BE ABOUT CARS ,
if you want to concours be in thr minority and get **** took like custom
has with me , otherwise just turn up and enjoy

1/ I think some "Old Skool" merchandise needs to be made available !

        ie. Sunstrips

        Tax disc holders

        Key rings

        etc etc

The kind of thing available when the club was just MKI and MKII's ruled the roost !

I deffo not interested in a matching pair of RS vest and pants set !!

2/ I dont believe the Ford warehouse of Obsolete spares (to which the RSOC now have access) is going to have anything relevant to our needs so the club needs to look at possible re-manufacturing of RS "Old Skool" specific parts - centre console, sound deadening pad etc

3/ Give vehicle valuations relevant to todays market prices

4/ How can the RSOC's own insurance scheme be beaten by AON's classic scheme?
(surely cheaper insurance is a big part of membership benefits)

agree with a lot of what Charlie says.

Too much emphasis on concours and NOT enough on regular cars. Not everyone has sack loads of cash to spent on their cars..after all they are 25years plus, and should be commended for still being on the road, no matter what the condition. If its not concours then its in the car park, is their attitude which is all wrong!
RSOC catered more for turbo cars and more or less dumped old skool..causing some enthusiasts to start "old skool only" clubs..which have been a great success in my opinion. If the RSOC get it sorted then they too can be great again..but they need a real MK2 enthusiast in place to take it foward.
Been a member since 1985 and still am, hope too see it back on track soon.

i think there are alot more road running cars about and they need to play a part of the show's aswell...

i think the remaking of parts will help no end...

also its a club for all rs owners...its like its a shirt and tie club now...well some parts of it....

This comment really gets me and I here it all the time from the owners of the older car, (not a pop at you Ders ). Did this come from that the club is flooded by the later cars now, the Saff (maybe the Escort cosworth) and if i'm right was the most popular RS sold by Ford so there number will be higher. But !!! I hear these comments from other areas of the RSOC like .....
              • MK5/6 RS2000 v16 owners
              • Mk3 RS1600i owners
              • RS Capri owners
              • Us !!!
              • Mk1 escort owners
              • Fiesta RS's (turbos & 1800's)
We need to feel loved and a part of the club, I dont know why us pre 1980 Rs owners feel rejected, interest in the older cars over the last 5 years has grown and grown but will only we the members can make it work.

I ask 'Why did dave feel the need to start this bbs ?' as an RSOC member and with our own BBS that the old skool area isnt used.

I dont think parts supply is the only answer to the question maybe a part of the answer, I hope members of the RSOC would of had a good read of Grahams comments in the front page of the current issue of Rallye News and will feed back to him. Since then I have questioned my own membership, I will be renewing this year; 1 or 3 years membership.... I dont know yet! 70% reason for renewing is my involvement in my areas local group.

Flame me for this, but John Hughes did help me source FEV and was valuable source if info when hunting for a car and I was able to spend a good few hours on the phone to him sussing the car out since he has records of the car going back to 1982. now without the RSOC I couldnt of done that.

Maybe the answer is with Phil, Martyn and the others that felt the need to break away from the RSOC and start the Mk2 Club, not a complete break as Phil is still the Chairman of the RSOC Leicestershire local group.

              lots of 'maybe' in there.

              Sum this up !!!!

We are not alone !!! (in the way we feel)
