  • Escort Mk1 Rs2000 Stripes!

A mate of mine has just added a beautiful 1974 Escort Mk1 Rs2000 to his collection, the car is a Stardust silver colour, it has some nice bits added, Group 1 wheels, group 1 down draughts. The previous owner was doing a bit of messing about with stripes on the car, the current stripe is a single black pin stripe on the car... is this correct for the year! also should it have the stripe decals on the bonnet ...and what colour should it be silver or blue !! Also something funny about the grille, where it attaches to the slam panel by the wing edges the original holes on the grille are not being used and other holes drilled a few mm's from them. Is this a different model grille or what !! Any info much appreciated.

if it was a custom model it will have a vinyl roof and a triple pin stripe with bullet ends on it, a non custom came with the wide rs2 decals but these were a delete option if u didnt want them.
I have seen loads of mk1's with the extra holes in the top of the slam panel which dont line up with the holes in the grilles, maybe a mix of non gen slam panels or remanufactured grilles

      hope this helps

My old MK1's grille never matched up with the panel either. Seen lots of show cars that don't either.

Stardust MK1's Never Factory fitted with large black decals , must were fitted with the black tripple pin stripe classed as the delete option, like vinny correctly sayes.

The 1973 RS2000 brouchure states Stardust Silver / decal colour- Blue / coachline- Black !!!! Never in all me years seen a silver rs2 with blue stripes , not nice .......... Stardust looks amazing with the coach line , way ahead of its time and very rare.

All front grills manufactured with holes in end, these were for earlie type slam panals pre 73 , (battery in boot models), have no pics sorry. Basiclly ford make one grill to fit all ..

                Escort Mk1 Stripes !

Thanks very much for that info lads, the car hasn't got a vinyl roof but has the battery in the boot, persume it was original if the down draughts were fitted from first day (bit of a tight squeeze with the airbox!!) Will try get a few pics up soon Aaron my camera is on the blink at the moment.
