RichM, fell off me chair when I read that Dingy didn't have the Vatanen Touch, just recovered from that shock just now! Every Old Skooler should have the whole *****ng series from both Sports Seen and Duke.
Videos like "A little bit sideways" , "RAC 1977" and "Coup de Grace" everyone should have.

Sutton didn't build any lightweight Monte-tarmac specials as KL says, he was very conservative with his spec. But to my knowledge he was the first to use the Gartrac Monte Carlo arches on his tarmac cars, before that there where just the normal tarmac arches or the very crude made arches for the 1979 Monte cars and also GVX489T as used by Coleman on the 1980 Circuit. He then also used the very-high-revving BDG with about 275 bhp. (sadly retired because of a broken oil-hose).
If you want to read a nice article on tarmac-cars then find a very old CCC mag from June-1982 or look at your old Rallye News mag (if you have them) for an article by Andy Dawson which featured the 1980 Circuit-Coleman car. I build my gp4 to the same spec as this car.

Graham Robson states again in this months Classic Ford that the 1979 Monte cars had their body lowered on to the chassis. I don't think they did this, it's very easy to think they did because the engine isn't mounted on the normal mounts but bolted directly by special mounts onto the chassisrails and ofcourse you can weld those brackets further back on the chassirails if you want and lower the engine and the same time.
I asked Bill Meade if they had lowered the complete body of the 1979 cars a few years ago at a Boreham show and he said they didn't.

If you go the David Sutton please say hi to Pete and John O'Connor from me; we visited them some time ago and were made very welcome and got the complete tour of the museum and workshop plus some interesting stories from the past!!

    Grtz, Leon.

          Escorts vids

          Dingy,
I thought a genius as you are would have had at least the Vatanen Touch!
I have had my copy for years, Ari is still the best IMO! The way he had the MK2 Escorts so sideways and still had some sort of control was amazing. Another vid/dvd you should find is The Vatanen Touch Too! Even if he was driving a Manta 400, I don't think anyone had a car sideways over a grid in the rain like he did. Check it out!
How much are you lot paying for the DVD's?
