  • Another rally car being repaired

Not as epic as Mike's thread:

    a bit later on:

    to be continued....

Not too far off now. Car has been painted:

While it's in for repairs have finally got round to putting in rear turrets for the coils overs:

I took the damaged wing home for a souvenir and compared it to one I had kept from about 35 years ago (Mini Clubman - how small is that wing!):

The similarity is worrying (same side, same type of damage). One thing that has changed, signwriting now seems to be a lost art - before the advent of computer cut self adhesive decals it was the only way to get sponsors and names on the cars.

Still more work to do on the white one though....

        Body work done:

Need to finish off the work at the back end.

The car in the background is a Monte replica being built:

This is what the guy with the paint shop runs...

Finally got it home to finish off the jobs:

          Proper fuel tank in:

Changed the original (heavy) rear spolier for a fibre glass job. None of the holes lined up so had to re-drill them all

          Turrets and coil overs done:

Still a few jobs to complete...

This week-end! It's an event at an airport which is still used by the military so it's still active. The organisers issued some suplementary regulations recently advising that if anyone hit the runway lights it would cost them 800 Euros

Got the car back today from the wrapping/decal company, having changed the colour scheme from blue/blue to black/grey:

Not sure whether the black wheel arches look right or not...

All I need now are the windows. I'm trying to lighten the car so ordered some polycarb windows. We took out the glass and the windows arrived - for a Mk 1 Escort. The guy then went on holiday for two weeks. Hopefully they will arrive and be in for the week-end.

Windows arrived in time and fitted, so I'll finish this thread now. Made it to the race. Morning was hot and sunny and the runways were vey abrasive. Completely shagged the rear right CR311s in 6 laps of practice which had about 3mm of thread- took them down to the canvas

Afternoon it poured with rain and not eveyone had wets, which we did. Unfortunately due to shortage of time they amalgamated races and put the fast Porsches in with the fast 2 litre cars. They were quicker in the dry so in front on the grid, but slow in the wet. Got held up a lot but made up a few places. Sadly no cups on this occasion but a fun week-end. The finished product to close the thread:
