1980 RS2000 FOL 257V
It was restored by the previous owner some years ago and flat fronted along with a Group 4 tunnel being installed, front chassis wedged for strength and engine bay set up for a Cosworth turbo. With that the battery tray was relocated to the boot, radiator support panels cut and additional brackets welded to the slam panel and cross member for the intercooler but never finished
Car came set up with World Cup X Member, Quick Rack, Anti Dive Kit, Bilstein Coilovers with roller top bearings
Back Axle was built by R.A.C.E and has been shortened and braced, LSD and heavy duty shafts
Brakes are currently Cosworth Spec 280mm front vented discs and calipers with Cosworth disks and calipers on the rear
Car as it was when it arrived home:
What next: strip the shell and see what we actually have hidden under the paint and return it to droop snoop. Been very fortunate and located 2 NOS stock RS front wings, slam panel and radiator support panels. It’s a thought cutting the existing off as they have no rot just and just been modified.
Time to start. In the pics you can see the attachments welded onto the slam panel and front panel for the intercooler as well as the radiator supports being cut back, hence the replacement panels as I am going ST170 Zetec.
Spot welds removed from front panel / inner wing connection
Drivers side done and back to bare metal, next fill the additional holes in the inner wing which I can only assume were for the intercooler
Passenger side now, same issue, no rot but additional holes for intercooler
Passenger side holes now welded up, battery tray in place and flash coat of etch primer
Rest will need to wait till I get back as I work away from home and wont get to touch it now till May.
Now for the engine. Professionally built and installed low mileage (30,000) ST170 Zetec Engine, Strip, Inspect and rebuild carried out by Troy Robinson at Northampton Motorsport with 213bhp once completed on the rollers
VVT was operational in the Focus and kicked in at 2600RPM, Rev Limiter was set at 7800 rpm with a soft cut out, hence the trail on the map
All new parts as follows:
Jenvey 45 Throttle Bodies, linkages, Pipercross airbox and filter
Emerald K3 management System and ECU Loom
Ford Racing Injectors
Piper BP300 Camshafts, H/D Springs & Shims with variable Exhaust pulley & Vernier Pulley
Head Gas Flowed and refaced
Inlet manifold match ported / flowed
Block refaced and completion gaskets
Machined piston inlet pockets
Cylinders honed with competition rings
Crankshaft lightened by Knife Edging and balanced
Pumaspeed RS Billet Steel Oil Pump Gears
Steel Rods
High Flow RS Steel Water Pump
Aluguide big end / main bearings
ARP Bolts all round
Competition Cam Belt Kit
Ford Racing Plug Leads
Engine as was in the focus which was rapid
Engine now waiting patiently for its new home
That’s it for now, this is not going to be a quick turnaround due to my work commitments and will probably be vintage by the time its done and not classic
