  • Front Panel and Slam Panel question...

Can I ask for some opinions please on the front end welding that will start next month from those that have been there before and have the T shirt ....

I have managed to find over the months 2 x NOS inner wings, the N/S is the small hole version (what I need) but I have only been able to find a large holed O/S - My plan is to ask the welder to remove my original O/S top plate and to convert the big hole to a small hole then to put my original plate back on top complete which chassis number - is this feasible ?

With regard to outer wings I have managed to get a NOS O/S wing but it looks like I will have to go for a new pressing version for the N/S as I can't see any NOS ones for sale and I've been looking for quite a while - Is this sensible or should I not mix and match and go with 2 new pressed versions ?

Finally, I am going to have to deal with the metal mice where they have nibbled around the headlamps and up into the slam panel but....

... should I use NOS items (expensive but seem to be a few around) or is a sensible option to buy new pressed versions of these items and ask the welder to leave as much of the original car in place (where it looks to be OK) and to only replace the bits required.

My thinking is that this disturbs less and the front panel is under the nosecone afterall but would the work on the slam panel be invisible or should I just be damned with it and have it all removed and swapped out.

I know this might come down to opinion but I'd be grateful to hear some especially as these new pressings seem to look quite good so maybe NOS are not so important now ?

    Thanks - Justin

A good welder/panel beater will get pattern panels looking as good as NOS ones. NOS ones are not always spot on anyway! Pattern ones just take a little more work! The inner wings should be doable no problem and then sectioning the front panel or full replacement is just whatever you are happy with I think
