As some of you know I purchased Geoffs Black Mk2 Mexico recently so thought I would start a thread on here as I have been giving it a little nip n tuck ready for the lakes,
I have been after another mk2 Mex for a while as my mk1 is getting close to completion and I fancied another mk2 and as my first car was a mk2 Mexico I have always had a soft spot for them, so after travelling about 2000 miles looking at various cars I decided to take the hour and half drive to see "slower" (my other half christened it as soon as she saw it) I had discounted it as I didn't initially want a car that modified but after seeing the condition of it I was smitten and I quite liked the idea of owning the only black Mk2 Mexico

the car as purchased
I didn't get very far after purchase with a brand new throttle cable snapping about 10 miles into my journey so I managed to get hold off just enough to wind what was left of the cable round a finger if I jammed my nose on the centre cap of the steering wheel with my hand jammed up under the dash this method allowed me to get into 2nd gear on the hard shoulder and the mile required to get us to the services (****ing finger was killing me by then lol)
cable duly bodged by a nice rac man we got home and first job was the engine bay
so I -
converted to twin throttle cables
took off some stickers
put on some stickers
took off blue hoses, put on black hoses
compounded and polished
full service
put on burton 50th anniversary filler cap
next job was interior
get rid of fire extinguisher and SD decals from cage
get rid of 8 ball gearknob and fit std
fit handbrake cover
get rid of stainless door pins and fit std early "mushrooms"
fit early door winders
fit 12v socket, kenlowe override switch
remove dash bezels repaint silver and fit new heater decal
remove clocks, strip and clean
repaint steering wheel
fit choke pull
then exterior
get std wheels refurbished with new 888's
paint centre caps, drums and fit with Topaz's nuts
refurb and fit 1.6 wing badges (cheers Rob )
fit bonnet stripes,
fit pressed alloy plates
detail paintwork
I'm chuffed to bits with it now after my little fiddling, Thanks to Geoff for selling me his beloved car you can be rest assured I'll look after it
cant wait for the Lakes
