My Mk1 Escort 1300 Sport Project

Cheers for all the comments! I've had a bit of luck researching the cars history, it started out as a company car at a company called Smith & Bocking Ltd in Bermondsey, London & i put a post on a forum about Bermondsey asking if anyone knows about the car & someone has replied back with this post;

I've just stumbled across your post re the ford escort registered to Smith & Bocking - that was my Dad's company (with his nephew). My brothers worked for him & they both had yellow escorts, if you have a red one that was my cousins.
They made flat pack furniture for the likes of MFI amongst others & according to my brother my Dad's company was one of the first to do so.
I can remember those escorts well - the number plate started LVB.
Hope you're having fun restoring it.

Bit of an update, had a chat to the owner of the barn i keep my cars in, he's let me move the Sport into his workshop for the winter so i can do my cutting & welding without showering my my mk1 cortina in grinding & welding sparks & dust & also gives me a decent bit of space to work on it .
So its in its new winter home & up on stands..

Done a bit more today, decided to make a start on the metalwork, took a few measurements of the drivers side strut top & cut off the plate that had been welded on top & found this!

a bit more cutting, removed wing rail, remains of flitch plate & spring cup, back to good metal & cleaned it all up..

made up a new section for splash panel & tacked in place..

Just keep on nibbling away at that rust, your doing a great job and it will be well worth it in the end!

Thats deffo the best way, cut out all that crap, you will feel so much happier knowing how solid its going to be. Your cracking on nicely with it too.

tested motor & its working, one of the splines on one side was missing so replaced that,

I need a pair of these spindle caps. Where did you get yours from? My wiper mechanism has a ~7.5mm shaft and I cannot find caps to suit anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

found these ones which were new old stock at an autojumble, worth keeping an eye out on ebay for them, or get them secondhand.
