I've been in contact with a previous owner who owned the car from 1982 until february 2011, its been off the road since 1990. he emailed me a few scans of old photos he has of the sport, here's how it looked when he bought it in 1982..
keep the photo's coming with the progress.......
I have 1300 Sport registered on 'Oct 72 (it has a 6 dial dash) and it's under long term resto'.
These are seriously rare cars now

will do, have you any pics of your sport project? nice to know theres a few more around, It would be interesting to know how many are left.
just a shame he butchered the dash and sold the wheels off, seeing what you done with the cortina and the mk1 m8 you will have no probs sorting her out m8

cheers vinny! yeah its a shame dash has been cut about but its nothing that can't be sorted out & i've got a set of 5.5J lotus steels that will fill the arches nicely . Hows that lovely GT of yours coming along?
In the last resto pic it looks like a standard clock set up rather than the 6 dial one. Be interesting to see how this one progresses.
Early Sports had a standard 2-dial dash & separate rev counter pod mounted next to the speedo & gauges, they were only built from August 1971 to August 1972, after that all Sports were fitted with a 6 dial dash. Unfortunately this one has had dash cut to fit a 6 dial dash in but i'm going to put it back to the original 2 dial dash & rev counter pod setup.
Cheers! nice pics & story about your mk1 sports! I've been told by a few people now that mk1 sports are now the rarest model of all the escorts.
Plan is to restore this one back to standard as its such a rare car it would be a shame to modify it, although it now has a 1600 xflow in it so i may leave that as it is but havent decided yet. I've got the original separate rev counter pod that came with the car to go back in although I've got to repair the dash & put it back to standard.
Unfortunately the early 5J steel wheels didnt come with the car but i've got a set of 5.5J Lotus steels to go on it. There are a few bits & pieces missing so the search is on for those & i've started collecting repair panels & bits for it.
Your very welcome! There was something I loved about my 1300 engines, they have a shorter stroke and were very smooth running....but whichever engine you have it won't look out of place will it? I'm so glad you are restoring it to standard, and that you have the all important separate rev counter. You could replace the whole of the dash with one off a donor car maybe! You are lucky with the Sport that many parts fitted are just off the mainstream cars and easier to find. Keep the great work going!
