  • Made a start on the sills, both sides have had cover sills welded on in the past with the originals rotting away underneath.Started on the passenger side first.

nice to have new inner sills to weld to

cleaned off the paint & gave it a coat of weld-through primer, also had to weld in the seatbelt captive nut as the new floor hasn't got them.

Trial fitted sill & held in place with self tapping screws & clamps, had to take door on & off many times until I had a good gap around it

    • Welded outer sill on, plug welded it & smoothed down welds

Door fits well, so far so good so gave all the welds a coat of primer for now to keep the rust away.

      Thats it for now.

Cheers! Yes I'm going standard with this one as mk1 1300 Sports are so rare now, especially one as early as this one is, it would be a shame to modify it too much or turn it into a rally car. It needs to be saved!

Yes I agree it will be great to see this car restored to standard, that's one thing that attracts me to this restoration, and this is how I remember them! So many of them lost thier identity years ago by owners trying to make them look like their RS cousins, which are common as muck compared to the rare little Sports now! I would sooner have my Sport back any day!

                  • Got a bit more done on the drivers side lower front bulkhead, cut out the rot & made up a new repair section & welded it in.

also made a bracket for fuel/brake lines & welded on.

also fitted & welded on the seatbelt/propshaft mounting, I had to cut this from the original floor as the new floor didn't come with one.

Here's some pictures of the old floor I cut out so you can see how bad it was!

                        • Great progress on this, that new floor just looks so much better.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

                              • Next job is to sort out this mess, A-post has some rot & filler in it, splash panel has lots of rust pinholes, bulkhead arch is dented & been plated over.

Cut it all out, the A-post underneath is quite good, just has some surface rust.

cleaned off the surface rust & treated with rust killer.
