    • Yes Davey deffo hoping lol, even looks good around the roll bar and bumper mounts which as you know are usually always plated due to rotting away

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

      • I love this thread,a huge amount of effort going into making it right again. I must admit If I saw the scuttle panel in that condition the nerves would be kicking in!

        • Hi Tony, Its jason from Doncaster, took your advice and got on this site.
I don't think I realised the amount of work you had done to the escort when i saw it the other night. fair play for your tenacity mate.

          Catch up soon

          • Thank you for your comments guys. Feel free to come over anytime you want jason, give me a good reason to get kettle on lol.
Put a few evening in through the week and managed to strip out the dash, remove the wiring loom and take off the brake reservoir and brake pipes.
Decided today to tackle the heater bubble and see what was lurking under it

Didnt take much to remove it as you can probably imagine

A quick clean up and some crap cut out later

Some new metal going back in, hoping to get some more done tomorrow

Also had to cut this rotten bit out of the bulkhead, it was practically taking itself off

That left me with this hole to sort

Bit of new metal welded in

plus some galvafroid to protect it for now

              • Engine bay condition must have been a nice find after all the other little issues the shell has had!!

Great work and well done for sticking at it.

                • Bulkhead panel isnt bad at all on this one Jon, been quite lucky again there, not found any other grot on it.

Yes mate finding how good it was under the engine bay was deffo a bonus, very little to sort, the main problem areas on this car so far have been the A posts on both sides, innner and outer sills, floors, chassis and heater bubble area, what I like about the car is bar for having sill over sills previously fitted the car is reasonably original so free of other silly bodges and filler.

Managed to get a bit further with the heater air intake area today, had a few interuptions that slowed me down , just need to make a few more plates and weld them in, and then make a new cowl that fits round the heater fan as this one has rotted thru.

This is how it now looks, so im getting there

Thanks Davey, and yes mate I saw some on grahams site GSEscorts, but tbh they were not big enough to cover the whole repair area that needs doing, so I would still have plates to make and seeing as I can get metal to do the repairs free, why buy something that doesnt do the job. If it did the cowl area as well then it would have been worth considering.

                          • Looks fine to me, if your not in a rush make as much as you can it then costs mainly your time, i wouldnt have been able to get anywhere near sa far with my car if i hadnt made my own parts and on the plus side at least the ones i made fit how i wanted them to.

                            • True Jon, and on this occasion I couldnt actually get anything to cover the area that had rotted away so had no alternative really bar to make up what was needed.
I managed to weld in the new plates either side of where the heater cowl fits and the hole just needs a little more taking out to make it right, I found a few more weak bits so took them out and replated them too. I also cleaned up some of my previous welding around this area and im quite pleased with how it turned out
