  • I didn't realize how long it was since I last worked on Kermit, but with us having the puppies and other things the time seems to have just flown by, anyway today I decided to get back on track and finish the last bit of welding on the inside of the car before the inside can be finally fully primed and done in colour.
The N/S inner A post panel was originally totally peppered in rot, so temporarily I tacked it to the new outer A post until I got the rest done, of course that job never got looked at again lol until today.
This is what it looked like

A cutting session with my new grinder prepared it for a new piece of metal

One new bit of welded metal later I started to make the bottom curved piece.

As I was cutting off the excess piece of metal down the A pillar my new Silverline grinder decided the job was too big for it and the disc stopped spinning pmsl with a bang and a clatter but the motor kept going, so that is going back to Tool station asap.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

    • Well that was the first time I used a silverline tool, and the last, I took it back to Toolstation today, I bought it 4 months ago and still had the box for it, no problem there at all, they took it back and I went for the one that wasn't in stock when I bought the silverline one, so I now have a Sparky grinder and it works a treat.
With new grinder in hand, I carried on from where I left off and got this section completed today

Then after a little dressing and a rub down I put the seam sealer on, that stuff stinks and I quite like the smell lol, but decided to leave it and went in for a cuppa

            • Lol Davey, You are my mentor, I get my part making skills from watching you and what you have done on other projects, but yes you are right and finding time always seems to be the problem.
Here are a few pics of my double garage im building, and this has taken years to even get this far due to the Councils incompetence of how to class what I am doing, because the original single garage had a little office on the side that I wanted to incorporate into making the new double garage, anyway to cut a 5 year story short, eventually a chap from the council came up to have a look at what I wanted to do and went away and rang me back to say he had sorted it out and I got written permission to build it at last, yay.

              • Well I haven't been looking forward to doing this bit, but scuttle panels even decent second hand ones are hard to find in good condition , I have been looking for one for ages, but nothing reasonable has come to light, so I decided to have a go at repairing the one that was on the car. Im doing small pieces at a time to try and keep the shape something like, this first piece is fully welded across the back having been spot welded on the front. This is going to be a time consuming job, just hope it looks ok when I have done it.
So far I have added about 6 plates which leaves about 6 inches at the N/S left to sort

                        • Cheers guys, and no Davey I don't think I could ever have a garage big enough lol.
I got nothing done on the car tonight, but I did manage to get the front of the spit sorted so now both ends of the car can be raised and lowered, also fitted a latch to the rear A frame, the nut is temporary because I am going to make some new metal pieces and pass the latch bolt straight through them to lock it in different positions.

                          • Its almost been a year since I removed the heater bowl to repair the mess under it, so today I made a new cowl, welded it into position, made the cut outs as per the originals have in them and then put a thin coat of primer on to see where I need to tidy things up before I put some filler/primer on.
