  • This next job was the last piece of welding on the front of the car so now its done im quite chuffed to say 1/3 and a bit done and just under 2/3 to go Once the N/S floor is in I can then get it up on the spit to sort the rest of the horrors out.
This job will need finishing once its up on the spit as its a cow working over the wheel and around the antiroll bar etc so once they are removed and im not crawling around on my knees I can give it some closer attention.
    This was this evenings job

Started cutting out the rot and it seemed to just continue, plus it had a repair here in the past

Made up this repair plate for it

Drilled the holes in it for the antiroll bar mounting bolts and trimmed it a little bit more

    Welded into position

Quick clean up and a lick of paint until I get it up off the ground and give myself better access

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

    • Nice one tony that area was one of the first I did on my car. Feels like years ago now but was about 10 months ago now and I planned to have it welded and painted in a year, doesn't look like that's going to happen!! Lol

        • Im getting there slowly guys.
          Little update but big progress.
Inner sill positioned and ready to weld in

then both passenger floor pieces welded in, almost ready to get up onto the spit at last, just a few small plates to make and add in a few rusty places, just going to get the outer sill welded on first and then its time to see what the underside is keeping secret.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

                    • Its not as bad as I was expecting Lee, looks original so hopefully wont need much welding doing to it.

                      • Dropped the axle today and got the car up on the spit at last

and looking underneath, it isnt bad once past where the floorpans were rotten, the only bits I can see so far that need doing are the last 4 inches of chassis on both sides, a bit under where the tank sits and the spare wheel well

everything else underneath looks to have weathered well apart from all the rubbers which have perished away

                          • So far Lee the following is all I can find that needs doing to the rear half of the underside of the car
1..Last 4" of chassis on both sides of car has rotted away
2..Small area of rot where front of petrol tank bolts to floor
3..Tyre well needs replacing, been botched up in the past
4..Both sill closure plates need replacing
5..front of both inner wheel arches have rotted away and been replaced previously with cardboard
6..Rear valance has rotted out on both sides where chassis welds to it

Other than the above, so far the rest looks really good underneath.

                              • Ha ha I wish Lee.
Havent had much time on the car so far this week, but did manage to repair this O/S 'A' post inner panel, both sides of this had rotted away so made new pieces for both sides, welded them in, cleaned it up and put seam sealer on. Will have to do the same repair to the N/S as well.
