Cheers gent's, it's taking me ages!!

Was hoping to have it on the road this summer but with work and other car stuff, may have missed the boat TBH. Aiming for the Ford show at Donnington now.

Finished off running the fuel line and battery cable to the boot (bar the final fitting)

No pitures of the tank yet (as had a change of direction, now looking to fit a Marston bag tank as per the works cars) but my Mag's did arrive.

4 have been blasted but one came in gold and it's got me thinking.

I've given them a quick look at and one of them is cracked on the rim, but the seller is resolving that with a replacement rim. I'll get the whole lot checked anyway properly.

The gold one gave me a idea and wondered your thoughts?

Does it go with the car, I kinda think it does but it's a marmite moment.

Also, if I do go down this route, anyone know what the right colour is? I've found a gold in B&Q Plastikote that is pretty close!!

Just looking into the right primers for these now, no matter what colour they go, they need to be done right.

Manage to get a great condition Magard sump guard (with it's tabs intact!!) so that need cleaning up and fitting when it arrives.

              Long time since a update!!

Been busy with the Mini rally car and a new work contract that I have not had chance to get my mits on the escort for a while. Need's must and all that.

Now the Mini is sorted and happy, I managed to turn my hand to making the battery box for the Varley Red top. I wasnt happy with the one I bought earlier in the year and fashioned one up that was the same as in the FF cars we have. I've lined it with thin foam to help guard against vibrations. In the back ground you can see the axle breather bottle, a spare from the pedal box build.

              IMG_0550 by jerrythegerman, on Flickr

Just the spare wheel straps to fit in there now. Plus the firewall.

I'm still undecided about the tank, but I still needed to get the rear bumper and mudflaps fitted. I had a GRP one painted up so fitted that but need to pick up a steel one from a very nice chap on here, when I get up that way.

Still unsure if I should paint the rear panel satin black or not? If I do, then in theory I need to paint the door/rear quater surounds too and I am not sure if it will work with the blue stripe and it's position on the car.

I've not got the road tyre/wheels on the car yet. But they are 7's with Dunlop A2's on..very period!!

              IMG_0643 by jerrythegerman, on Flickr

I've also made up the panel that fits the Halda Twinmaster and the 8day clock on it, just the sun shroud and mounts for the P lights to finish off on that plus a lick of satin black.

I did think I could have had this built in 12 months but I am at that point now and have decided not to rush it, as the winter is just around the corner. It's 6 or so months to spring so that's now my aim. I'm looking to do some 12 cars in it and then maybe some Euro events where they aint so anal about arches and twin 48's!!

Oh, and the lakes and snowdonia tour's!!

Managed to get a bit more done.

Fitted the big tank after getting some photo's off Mike the Panel and working out what would be possible.

3 x Classic Mini long tank brackets, a bit of welding and a dash of satin black paint and 1 tank strap made and fitted.

I bolted in the redtop behind it and plumbed it up underneath, with a guard covering where it comes out in the offside wheel well. The fuel line then goes back into the shell without hanging down.

Just the firewall to be made up now. Alloy ordered.

                  IMG_0690 by jerrythegerman, on Flickr

Fitted up the mud flaps and bolted on the mag minilites with Dunlop A2's on. Not as shiney as my aftermarket minilights and Toyo's but a prefer the look so the Toyo's and rims may be for sale.

With the Capri axle on, they fill the arch well and the 195/60 profilr/tread looks great.

                  IMG_0692 by jerrythegerman, on Flickr

Finally finished the dash panel (Mk2 as drilled too many holes in Mk1!!) and fitted up a new Terratrip 2 and next to it, the plastic case tripmaster. added a P light bracket above the Halda. Riv nutted it to the dash panel for easy removal. I need to make up a shroud around the Terratrip to stop the sun glare (when we have any!!) Will now be listing the Halda Twinmaster as not going to be used.

Last job was finishing off the wiring for the Cibies.

Decided to give them a lick of stone grey and polish up the rims (Oooeerr) then fitted them up and added the steadies and mandatory insulation tape.

                  IMG_0698 by jerrythegerman, on Flickr

Next step is to sort the cage and fit the firewall in (once I've cut it out of alloy). End of season for the other cars so should be able to crack on.

Do you drive the single seaters ?
Don,t like the Gold rims by the way on a white car ,my opinion only

Cheers for the comments, still unsure of the gold rims myself (blow hot and cold over them!)

Yes, when I get the chance but with being self employed, rallying and a 3 year old girl (who's becoming a petrol head!) getting time to do so is rare nowadays.

Still get involved on the odd event but not done any championships for a while. Just been developing a couple of historic cars over the last 12 months (a 69 and 70 Merlin).

Too much on and not enough time...anyway, wheres the painted phot's of yours?

Not the nicest of jobs or the most exciting of pictures but it's progress and means that it wont be rotting for a few more years!

Waxoil, don't you just love the stuff!!

1 hr of submerging it in a bucket of hot water (constantly topped up) and a dash of white spirit got it into some sort of usable state and I loaded it up into a old shults container on my windy shults gun.

Thankfully, whoever bought this car new had it done straight off and all the hard work of drilling holes in the sill had been done. With a fitting on plastic hose I have the sills took no time. They were mint anyway and this was just a top up. same with the doors and inside of the rear quaters.

Then made sure the inner wings were properly covered and as must as the chassis as I could get to. Made sure above the lip in the rear arches was well applicated.

It will doing again in a few years but means I am happier using it in the mud/rain and if needed winter. I'm not into buffty inner wings I'm afraid.

With the weather being just on the right side of comforable (not too cold) I thought I'd get any outstanding painting or bonding I can get done before it gets to cold to do anything that requires curing

To that end I thought it good to build up the arch guards. Bit nerve racking drilling holes in the paintwork though!!

I wanted the period look so the modern one's were out of the window and I wanted them to be as sealed as I could get them, so used Tiger seal as well as the rivets to secure them.

I made up some alloy formers and tig'd them up at about the right angle before final shaping with a bit of heat.

A cardboard template was made up and trial fitted. Once i was happy, I riveted on the trailing edge (on the arch) and stretched my way around to the quater panel, securing the alloy strip last.

Any drill holes were painted and the lot waxoiled at the end. then a thin bead of seam sealer was applied at the edge of the rubber and smoothed off.
