  • The 12sec "comfy" Evo 2 rebuild .

Well i decided to tweak the spec of the world famous 12sec "comfy" mk1 Escort early last year but progress has been very slow due to DIY projects + wifey taking all my money . I stripped the car of all it's mechanicals and then it's just sat there gathering dust for 12 months until now .
Plans for the new Evo 2 version include a new 202 thick wall pinto block to hopefully stop the blocks splitting at 8500+rpm and 230x Dyno-Dynamics bhp (265+ "coastdown" bhp) , 50 kilos less weight , a line lock for big burnouts at the drag strip , lower gearing for more acceleration , sort the 6 pot brakes out with different brake cylinder sizes , sort out the front crank trigger set up and change the suspension a bit with coil overs on the front etc .
Hoping to go sub 4.0secs to 60mph and low 12secs at 110+mph over a 1/4 mile whilst street driven and street legal . Should be possible so we'll see what the FIA approved clock says .
I'll post some pics up soon and all feedback is welcome . Cheers .

Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!

Looks like this , no changes to the outside are planned except i'm loosing the rs2000 badges and changing it to 1300 sport badges to upset the local supercars more when i overtake them . HA HA .

Bottom end now rebuilt into new 202 pinto block . Same bits and spec as before , cosworth standard stroke steel crank , Fardon "H" section conrods , 12:1 Accralite forged pistons , Titain dry sump system , steel flywheel and AP paddle cerametallic clutch , etc etc .
I used to have under piston oil spray jets but they've falled before and fell out so this time they've not been used . Just using the oil splashing about inside the engine too cool the piston crowns this time so hopefully it will be ok .
Simple install , no WCXM bollox that shakes the car too bits . Standard rs2000 rubber engine mounts and it drops straight into the bay in 5 mins .

I need to get some core plug blanks machined up as my old ones from the cracked 205 block are too big and that's about it for the bottom end . The heads all been rebuilt as well and is in the bedroom so i'll dig it out soon and take some pics before it fit it .
I had too wait 4 weeks for the WRC multi-shim headgasket to arrive from the USA as they are a special order on a 93mm bore but apart from that and the core plug blanks everything else as been readily available off the shelf .

Nice to see you getting it rebuilt Gaz when i built my n/a engine didnt use either spray jets in the block or the cossie pickup pipe and everything seems to be holding together with the oil just splashing around all the best and FULLSPEED AHEAD cheers Wullie

You'll like my mk1 cortina when it's done . It will look standard from the outside but have a 2.5 litre 9000+rpm all alloy 16v pinto with a Millington Diamond cylinder head etc etc and carbon panels so it's nice and light . Should go alright !!!!
I have alot of the engine parts already so another few years and i'll start to build the car up .

Well before re-fitting the engine i decided to buffty up the x-member and steering system first .
Once i'd stripped it all out i noticed the steering column joint had roasted in the exhaust mainfold heat and looked a bit worse for wear . I decided to replace it incase it breaks in half but have lost the gp4 steering joint i bought a few years back so spent foooookin hours looking for it !!!!
Still no luck as yet but i found plenty of stuff too sell instead , lol .
