I like what you have done with the lock wire. I removed my diff today to find the crown wheel bolts have worked loose.

I have sent you an email.

Mine unwound itself at oulton park last year, and proceeded to shot itself at the time..
Well worth lock wiring when complete

          Cheers Louie,

I am hoping Dave will be able to lock wire mine and rebuild the diff.

              Nice description!

I'm just winding up my diff overhaul - did it by the book but am surprised with a couple of things - need an experienced opinion!

As I haven't renewed the bearings (did that a couple of hundred miles ago, but then had an oil leak), I set up the pinion to about half the book setting, and have now just set up the backlash. Was an effort to crush the spacer - ended up using a metre extension bar on the socket.

Playing with other older diffs I have lying around, they have loads of play in all directions (pinion in and out and backlash). If you get hold of them and move the pinion/crownwheel they really do "clank, clank".

Having set up mine by the book, everything moves nicely, but the play is really absolutely minimal - more of a barely perceptable and hardly audible "click, click".

Setting up the backlash, I really had to exert effort to tighten up the adjustment collars. On the old diffs, they can more or less be undone by hand.

Question: is it really that the old diffs are worn, or am I setting up mine too tight? (I can still turn the diff by hand and it's very smooth - just no longer clanky clanky!)

Cheers for any feedback / praise / warning what a nutter I am etc.!
