  • Project VUH - RWD?

My new project and yes i've still got the other one, bought this one locally from a bloke i knew on the fiesta forums i'd already sold him a few bits a while back:- zetec engine, bonnet, etc, and when he sent me a message asking if i wanted to buy it as he couldnt afford to finish it i couldnt refuse, so snapped it up, the shell is in really good nick cant see any welding on the inside floor pans which is rare, sills look good even the boot corners are clean.

the last owners already done the five speed cut out and fitted the five speed xr2 box and cradle hes also done a repair on the scuttle and fitted new front panel and he gave me brand new wings to fit also.

the plans for this car is to fit an escort front crossmember and fit a black top 2 litre zetec up front with a capri axle at rear and keep it look stock standard wings standard brown interior etc..., but when i cleaned the car out this morning and seen how clean the shell was im having doubts as to whether or not to just fit the 1.8 zetec engine as normal get it running as cheap as poss on ford management and get it mot'd should be quick and easy!!! cant see the rwd being anymore difficult though, gonna decide after i get back from the lakes, think being at the lakes is gonna make my mind up

anyone know the difference from a standard escort crossmember and an rs one??

i would use a capri crossmember as an escort one is a bit to narrow(enless ur chopping the inner wings out and rebuilding them?) as u struggle to get the lock to lock???

Chris , would think so as plenty of escorts on 2.8 capri struts , RS crossmember is strengthened over standard.

u can use 2.8 billies on escort but u need rs2000 TR ends...but u cant used standard escort stuff for capri....only rs2000 struts (same as 1.6/2.0 cappa)

u could use escort back axle but is narrower than cappa but 2" i think, but seen them used (just add wheel spacers)

i found the hardest bit was the steering column etc to connect up...
the rest it just loadsa measuring & lotsa welding

sounds like an escort axle is gonna be best then dont want to be widening the arches if i can help it want it to look stock from outside, someone on the fiesta forums is fitting a cosworth lump rwd in his fes and hes done some nice fab work to engine bay, so gonna pinch a few ideas from his, i cant wait to get it started now

looking forward to using more of the welder than filler lol
