Couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from a mate asking if I would be interested in a Cortina, I knew straight away which car it would be. The car belonged to his ex-father in law and I had first seen it about 1988 and it was already bare shelled then, the guy passed away a few years ago and his Mrs now wanted the garage cleared. My mate found someone who wanted the car so he pulled the shell out into the open for the bloke to pick up, two weeks passed and he gave backword and said he no longer wanted it. So, this is where I came in, I asked how much and was told the car was for free but had to be moved asap.
I knew my mate wanted a Cortina, we had been watching out for a 2 door GT at the right money, anyway I told him about it and said if he wants it for free I will get it off my mate, we collected it a couple of days later......however
The shell was in one place and the rest of the car was still at the old girls garage, we went to collect it. Upon arrival we noticed there were no closing panels, doors, boot etc, no trim, grille amongst other stuff. Turns out the guy that said he wanted it took all this stuff first then changed his mind. Anyway we had a contact number for him and my mate assured me we would get the other stuff back.
A week or two had passed and I had my doubts, thought the guy was maybe only after the doors etc in the first place, well I am pleased to say I was wrong and tonight we picked the rest of the car up.
The wooden door cappings etc are wrapped in newspaper dated October 22nd 1978 and the last tax disc corresponds to this as well. The front grille still has the factory spots fastened to it, doors are mint originals, never skinned and don't need it, trim is very dusty but very very good except for one tear that looks to have been done only recently.
Theres a fully rebuilt 16GT motor all the chrome is good, Rostyles, a full 1600E basically.
Now the photos of the car itself, dont be alarmed, this car has been dry stored since 78 and had two weeks outside,originally gold and registerEd RHH8H, it has had two poor repairs to the strut tops but apart from that it is all original and straight and solid, the mileage is 69k from new.
Plan is to get it media blasted in the next couple of weeks and see where we go from there, got a couple of Escorts to get finished first.
