Time for another update. The weekend's been a mixture of fortunes...
      Got some more stripping done

The door skin doesn't look too bad - just a bit of scab at the bottom. But the frame's not in too good shape - an old repair and a fair bit of grot. (I feel one of Expressed's repair sections coming on....)

      But who would do this:

As reported elsewhere, I wanted to get the shell back up into the rollover jig but, sadly, it came off its stands and landed on the front valance.

I think the front panel will have to come off for that one
Still - its now on the frame and the decks cleared for the next stage.

      Cheers

Chris, have got to say, but this photo is a little concerning about the welding (similar to the arches in your previous post) ........ just saying the panel should be continually welded and ground down, not just "tacked" in place ............. not doubting your welding buddy meant good, but this just aint right, sorry .........the car will flex and eventually pop the welds and filler ..........

as you've said before, do it once and do it properly

          Hi Graham
Yes, I totally agree with you. This weekend has allowed me to get up close and scrutinise what I have here and I realise that there is more to do. Paul has made an astounding job of replacing the floorpan/bulkhead section as he has the inner wings etc. All these panels were "unstiched" and then re spot welded along the original seams and I don't have a problem with any of that.
The rear section is a slightly different story. Yes, the arches, wells and rear panel definately need redoing. Paul is a fabricator/welder, not a motor engineer and maybe didn't realise the implications of "tacking" and the MOT law
I will continue to concentrate on paint stripping and priming the rest of the shell for now and address these issues later.
One thing came out of all this (Taffr dropped this back into my mind) - I'm now reconsidering an X Pack kit Not to short cut the work that needs doing - its more that my original theories for NOT doing it have changed recently............
          Cheers

Not much done in the last few months due to manic work commitments but last week I left a lifetime's slavery behind and took early retirement.
So hoping to crack on now - especially as I see my nipper's started a resto thread. The race is on........

Was thinking the samee G and given the shell is so nice for its age being early i would say it warants a full back panel rather than a part section.
the pattern full panels ar a good price and fit. And you would'nt regret it as even fully welded the repair will still rear its head in time!!

                      Nice early you have there!!!!!

Yes, I take your's and Grum's point and I will be addressing these concerns. At this point, I'm still struggling with the decision whether or not to make it an X-pack. I would really like it to be but the thought of cutting into those arches.................

                        • Enthusiasm and free time are at the fore again so it's time to crack on.
The usual rot area at the base of the heater bubble has been niggling me. I tried to patch it up but its never going to be to my satisfaction - so its time to get it off.

Glad I did as I can now clean up the area underneath and also the area around the base of the screen was getting pretty manky. I was going to try to fabricate a section to let in but I see Magnum already do one so have ordered one up. I will square off the area to cut out when I have to new panel as template.
Cleaned up the area and whacked on a bit of Halford's finest for the time being.

                          Cheers
