  • 1300 Sport restoration.

Hello folks, I've had about 20 RS's over the years, but not had one for a long, long time. However, scanning my way through various websites I stumbled upon a very original 1300 Sport in Germany, so I'm in the process of restoring it - or rather it's being restored by a mate of mine in the Czech Republic and by me whenever I can get out there to do a bit.

Where can I get original spec 1300 Sport stripes?

            Hi Pete,

I hope you're well. Have you got any more pics of the motor?
I'm lucky enough to have a 1300 Sport too.

Looking forward to seeing the car in the flesh!

Rs's have had all the glory for years now. It would be nice to see a few more more Sports have their turn now!

I can't make out the colour as it's faded, is it venetian red?

              Good luck with the restoration.

It is indeed venetian red. It's been off the road since 1993 and has at some point had a lower half paint job which doesn't do it any favours.

I have, however, managed to track down proper Sikkens venetian red for it and it'll be getting a full repaint before I bring it to the UK.

Don't have many other photos, but here's an interior one just for fun.

It'd not been hoovered for 16 years either, but the carpet is pretty much perfect in it. The radio still works as well, which is nice.

Looks very original an unusual find. Will you convert it to RHD?

Sikkens Venetian Red is the same as mine shown in my signature picture.........it will look beautiful when done. I really like the car and love the basic Ford radio, in all it has a lovely original look about it!

Looking forward to seeing a pic of it painted!

                      Tim.

I think it would be a shame to convert to to RHD. It's original, and converting it to RHD would mean changing things like the carpets which I don't want to do. It's lasted 30 years with pretty much all its original bits, and I'm changing all the brake pipes etc to get it through the TÜV as easily as possible - I really can't be bothered doing all the brake pipes and paintwork and then bringing it here and doing it all again, especially when LHD isn't a problem once you're used to it.

I very much doubt LHD will make any difference to its value, if anything it'll mean there are more people rather than less who'll be interested when the time comes to sell. After all, with the Euro being as strong as it is and the car will have the TÜV along with an MOT so I don't see any reason to RHD it. Ari Vatenen used to drive LHD ones, and if it's good enough for him...

looks exceptionally original,it would be a shame to go butchering it for the sake of rhd.does it need much work, how are the floorpans and chassis legs etc?

A lot of it's originality is in the LHD items, it would be a shame to get rid of them. Nicer to leave it as it is!
