      Nice work there mate. I could tell it was going to be S2000 by looking at the shape of the tunnel... I m in the process of building my shell, will soon be installing my s2000 engine and gear box. which will be chassis mounted,

      Are you running a dry sump??

      Are you using ITB's?

      Make sure you use a 2 piece prop, as i ve heard that if you run a single piece it can snap the main shaft, reason for this is the s2000 has a fixed munted diff with independant suspension, and the mk2 has a (obviously) live axle which moves up and down..

        2 answer the questions

        I am using the Honda injection with a programmable ecu therefore power should be standard, about 230bhp. It needs to be dry sumped to get the engine low enough in the chassis and in my case is installed at the same angle as original, which tilts the engine over to the drivers side.

        The prop must have a sliding joint somewhere along its length to allow the axle to go up and down as you say. Was not planning on a 2 piece prop though - may need to take advice on this. Thanks for the warning Wayne.

          Yes my engine will be sat at an angle also, I am in 2 minds wether to run ITB's or standard injection, how did you go about the wiring loom? did you have to have it modified??

                Answer to Why?

                Firstly I thought long and hard about this before I began the project so I completely understand this is a valid question. The original picture was taken in 2002 and it was already getting hard to hide the rot in the doors then. After 2 more years it was becoming obvious that some work was required to fix the doors, inner wings and floors. So that was the real starting point: a car I had been enjoying for 6 years in need of some tlc.

                At that point in time I had owned RS2000's for the best part of 20 years and I wanted something a bit special. If I had started a straight forward resto of the car it would not have got finished as the end result was not what I truly wanted. I could have done a quick bodge and passed on the problems to someone else but that isn't my style. I made some attempts to sell the car at the end of 2004 but I did not really want to take on an unknown car as the base - at least I knew what problems would lie in store when the paint was stripped off (at least most of them) and I can remain in the RSOC. Rest assured though, this was no original panel car.

                I had a vision of what it would look like when finished and that it had to have a modern engine with fuel injection. Therefore a lot of the running gear was sold off early on - there was to be no going back. The early nose cone has gone to a very good home and will be replaced by a proper early flat front grille and the boot lid has kept its early badging. I think, when its sitting on its minilites, with lights and grille fitted, it will be as handsome as it was before.

                  We're all different, and after my very first car which I personalised to death, I have always been careful not to go far from anything that the manufacturer would have done, hence keeping my cars near to factory standard as possible.

                  But I can understand you wanting a change, and you certainly will with this conversion. Good luck with the build, I'm sure you will enjoy it when it's done and it will create a lot of interest at the shows etc.

                    Hi PFX

                    If you need any further advice on the prop my mate is very near finishing his S2000 powered Grp4 car and has had his 2 piece prop made by Bailey Morris and they have made a superb job. I know you may not be yumping your car but the info in the rear of the gearbox being weaker than a type9 is correct (only from a weight of prop point of view)

                      Brief update

                      After making very little progress on the fuel and oil pipes I've turned my attention to the suspension and started to build this up. Probably an afternoon's job if you know what you are doing but its taking me a little longer. Something I have noticed on the front suspension is that I now have about 20 degrees of toe out. Everything is new except the steering rack, which has not changed since it was taken off. I can only assume that its the lowered rack mount on the wcxm causing this. Can anyone confirm this?

                      Everything was a struggle to fit. I had to use a ratchet strap to get the tca into the cross member with a lot of tension. Also I had to pull the struts forward to bolt up the arb brackets. Again is this normal?


                      Drivers side set straight ahead



                      Passengers steering 20 degrees to left.

                      I have used adjustable platform struts and a twin cam anti roll bar with double width kit. Fitting the bushes to the arb went well with a bit of grease then heat up the rubber to make it more flexible. Will soon have the brakes and hubs fitted and get it on the ground. Axle has been put in place. Just need to fit the springs and measure everything up to get the axle running true.

                      Have also fitted the seats - more controversy - they're from a Mitsubishi!!!

                        The twin cam roll bar will bring the wheels forward, giving it more castor.
                        whats the tubular XM like. I have A WCXM, not sur if i can get away with using that...

                          engine and gearbox mounts


                          This is the base only world cup xm modified for the jag engine mounts I've used. Also the rack mounts have been changed so the engine can sit as low as possible. Even so there is no clearance. If the engine settles slightly it will start to hit on the rack mount. If so I can add a washer or two under the rubber mounts. Hope this gives you some ideas Wayne.



                          This is the gearbox crossmember designed to fit the standard Honda gearbox rubbers and below in situ.



                          Wish I could take the credit for the fabrication but its all down to a friend from work. I can now measure the length for the prop and get that made up. Duramatt has given me the name of a company who can do this.

                            Hi

                            Cheers for the info. as I have not much of an idea how it all goes,
                            I guess ill be more clear when i start mounting the motor and box, and go from there.

                                PFX has returned.

                                After spending months with wiring and plumbing PFX is finally finished. Took her out to the local group meet last night. Should be out again at National Day so come and have a chat. Thanks for the comments and support.
