Cheers for the replys glad it's of interest to people even if it only makes your own car look a lot better
well at the risk of going backwards again
when the car was originally restored the rear scuttle corners were going so were cut off and plates were made up to replace before it went to Rob's though I was aware these were bubbling again even though they were only in primer and had never been in daylight really
so Rob cut the corners of the scuttle shotblasted out the inners and remade some plates for me as above when we were doing the plenum
fast foward to a couple of weeks ago and the foooking fings had started to bubble up again
this was a rather irritating as we never cut corners in the repair annd it lasted less then a month I wasnt prepared to risk this again under decent paint so looked like we was going backwards again
so I drove up to escort tec and came home with this
I spent a day in the garage removing the rest of the escort from it and bare metalling the lot
then I dropped the car and nice scuttle back up at Hoarder towers so he could rev up the welder
Rob then found this which explains the rot keep coming back
so Rob decided that was crap, reved up the grinder (again) and made some nice new shiny bits, both ends were just as rotten
there was also some pinholes right in the middle of the panel as I dont think any Paint could have got in there from new it's hardly a surprise so Rob melded them up as well, then after a nice shotblasting the inner was treated to some etch primer and some nice lemans green
the idea of this was to get some paint in there to protect in the future and also cause I'm a tart and I wanted it nice and shiny through the vents
the new panel was then offered up several thousand times to check fit
this involved Rob letting about an extra 5mm on the end of the panel as it wasnt long enough !! A hangover from the fact the donor panel came from a lifelong circuit racer I suspect
when the fit was good the panel also got a blasting, etch prime and top coat of green
this was for future protection as although I knew we would lose a bit during the welding most would be protected now and the burnt bits would be remedied at respray stage
well my chosen painter has been round to take a look over the Mex he has agreed to do it, given me a quote and it goes in, in 2 weeks time
so I need to get going with drilling some holes in it before paint, unfortunately my free time is severely limited at the moment, so had to spend my birfday yesterday on the car and started drilling holes for shiny things and generally checking things before it all gets glossy
had the front and back windows in as well just to check
few pics, must say it made a nice change playing with other bits other then the shell
nice one bet you cannt wait to get it back and start putting the shinny bits on ,you've done well plenty others would have given up after all the hassles and set backs you've had
