I think Glyn is undecided on the colour now after seeing so many at AVO in Le Mans Green.

The stuff you called stopper after you cleaned up the welds is that seam sealer.

no it's stopper basically a very fine filler

well to bring this thread up to date a couple of pics of the car when I got it back in the garage

                back home

all tucked up in my newly finished garage

shame it hasnt stayed this tidy I was still painting the garage at this stage

and that brings the resto back up to date

apart from yesterday I spent the whole day on it

and I have just got in from Hoarder towers (SX To$$ers HQ) and my mex is now sitting up there awaiting next Monday as I have booked a week off work for me and Rob to get stuck into it.............................
                Cheers Glyn

Don't think you have road salt in oz. If a cars for using over here, you have to protect it. I'm all for stone chip

                          • i only moved out here in 2007 so i know all about salt as i used to have me own bodyshop and have welded from here to england and back so i understand the need for rust protection, wacking a load of stone chip on top of 2k seems pointless to me in time it shrinks and cracks if put on to thick it is not rust protection it is a deflection material. probly just me lol i like sprayable sealer it offers greater protection don't crack or shrink and give's a factory look. in no way am i haveing a pop i realy do get how much work has been done and the time effort and money that has gone into this rebuild for me it just cheapens the resto, it's not like it's going down a forest stage in wales so i don't see the point.

                            • I put the stonechip on as I'm never doing this again lol, I'm use my cars all the time, done about 10k in my mk2 last year I had it, and I would worry if there was just paint underneath

the stonechip I used was high quality overpaintable stuff so sure it'll all be ok

so spending my holidays this week on the mex again, plan is to sort the last boddgery on the plenum and get the floor in the car and engine bay ready for paint

the plenum was the only bit on the car that I was not happy with this dates back to the first restorer who welded plates to the outside of the plenum and plates from the inside with out taking the heater bubble off

so me and Rob (Mr_Hoarder) starting attacking on monday

before, starting to track down the spot welds

                              attack !

                              nice

Rob melding me in new bits

while Rob was melding I started bare metalling the inside ZZZzzzz

                              Cheers Glyn
