Painting the car is a piece of ****. All the work is in the prep. It's here that time is lost ad infinitum.
Sort that bit out yourself and £1000 will slap on the colour.
However, what you consider 'ready for paint' and what a top bodyshop would let through could be days of work apart.
Once again, like every thing Escort, it depends how low, or high, you set your levels of personal satisfaction. We're not Brazil, we're Northern Ireland

Dave i think the blue mk1 was 11k
You would'nt get much for under £3k,
Good paint, ici etc would cost at least £1000 to paint a mk2.
Everyone knows someone who will steal the paint and do a weekend special for £500,but in the real world you get what you pay for.
First you have to find a bodyshop that even know what a mk2 escort is !!

11k for a paintjob they must have seen him comin
considering most car restoration companys charge between
£20-30 per hour in the northeast anyway some of the prices
quoted seem a little high, mines booked in to the paintshop for
1 week as its being painted inside/outside/and underneath inc
engine bay and boot and thats only a weeks work for a skilled painter
[the painters words not mine]
had a few prices averaging £1200-1500 needless to say shopped
around and got it cheaper again.
strip the car to a bare minimum so they cant charge you for hours
of stripping before they can get started.
