Just a short report , I had the gearbox stripped by one of Sir Steve Ogles contacts as the 16i box is notoriously weak. On stripdown we were pleasantly surprised at how good the box was, negligable play in the bearings and no wear or damage to the cogs. Anyway as it was stripped I had the casings away and got them bead blasted then it was rebuilt with all new bearings (made sense seeing as it was apart), seals and gaskets. All the bolts were replaced with new or replated items. Next on the list is the engine block.
No lacquer Dave, just properly blasted by someone who knows what they are doing, chilled grit first then a new bag of glass beads...........just have to try and keep fingerprints off it now .

hey paul wots going on with the 1600i , are you on strike?
Not on strike but definately a go slow . Dropped all this off at the local engine shop for ultrasonic cleaning and measuring. All bearings were still on std size but had one rogue piston in for some reason. Getting the crank reground , new bearings , block just needs honed and new rings. Should pick it all back up next week.
Don't like to bother you MK2 boys with too many skater items
