Not so long ago now, the DVLA fraud department made an appearance at a owners house to inspect a RS1800, the car was never sorned, everything was ok and a trip the other owner was made, never knew the outcome of the guilty party.
This year another RS1800 log book was applied for, for exactly as the above.

If this guy has applied for other documents and then sold them on, the buyers of said documents may end up with a visit from plod and lose their project.

Serve them right for buying a logbook ?

Thus why there is about 200 RS1800 road cars left out of the 109 built!!!!

The funniest one for me is the diecast model company that produced at model of re-shell/ringer.

It is a very simple process to obtain a V5 and that is why a chancer has tried to steal another... This time it has backfired!

Just be aware as if you decide to take a 3 week holiday you could come home to a letter saying that a person has applied for the V5 for your pride and joy and if you do not respond within 14 days of the date on the letter than it will be granted to the applicant.

This person has been on the DVLA website and been checking reg numbers, noticed it has not been taxed since the late 90's and thought... "That will be long gone by now,so I will have that logbook to sell!"

This probably works for them 90% of the time as the cars will be long dead etc but this time they picked the wrong one!

I am happy that it is actually getting acted upon and the applicant is now under investigation for theft/fraud!

Thanks Paul Linfoot for also helping with the enquires etc!

The police are now involved and we have been granted back to us as the car we have is the real deal, thank god!
The person who has done this is now under investigation as this is not the first time it has happened and they appear to be trying to bring old cars back to life etc with a desirable logboook!!
They just picked one of the most well known cars on the RS Escort scene!!

    Stupid mistakes and thieves!!

    Beware!!!!

This practice has been going on for a long time, I seem to recall people applying for the logbooks of press cars and ex works cars.

You can use DVLA's own vehicle check, pick up a 30 year old magazine with RS's in, stick the reg numbers in the website, if it hasn't been taxed for 20 years it's maybe dead so apply for a log book and bring it back to life.

If people sent documents back to DVLA as scrapped/exported it would help instead of holding onto them as 'collectors' items.

DVLA have to take a big chunk of the responsibility.

All you need is the reg number , then HPI the car and there you go , all the details you need are there

The police are coming to see me ( because i was the privious owner ) for a statment as they are realy going into this as they suspect the person involved is doing this regular

They have picked on the wrong logbook this time as the history and owners as we all know is very easy to prove , and also its easy to prove the real car

Another car ringer that WILL be caught ,

I wouldnt want to be in this persons shoes , lol
