As as a new log book had been issued I wonder if the scammers name will show up if you make a previous owners history check with the DVLA. Then at least you'd know who the cheeky barsteward was.

All I am saying is

1 v5 in your name , not the previous keepers as some people do , especially car traders to keep the number of previous owners down on the v5

Sorn , print off the page keep in file ,

Mot , old days when paper copies and now current mot legislation recorded on websites , even if you have been off road for years , still good practice to get it on the trailer down to the station for a once over ,

I had the treat of a insurance policy cancelled on me as I had no mot due to a car having a engine change over , so it cost me a policy and money and had to start a new laid up cover during the period ,

Not having a dig , just trying to get you to cover all bases .

Car traders are not supposed to put the cars in there name if they intend on selling them , Hence why there is a correct trader section that informs DVLA that the trader has it but doesnt actually put the car into there name

Imagine how many owners some cars would have if every trader that ever had it put there name on the logbook

Traders who buy a car to resell arnt classed as actuall owners , hence why not required to put the car in there name

not sure if the dvla have tightened things up recently, but i remember you could just put down the reg and no chassis number when applying for a logbook and get the book through no problem.

I think Dave's point was the thread was dead and forgotten about, then someone quotes it tonight and hey presto it's back in full view.

Anyway, as has already been said, these thieves want reg numbers they are all over the place.

What you all need to start doing them is tax them and use them.

When your dead , your dead, can't drive them afterwards.

That thread Dave is a good thread and really has no need to be locked etc, this kind of thing really is down to an opertunity taken by a certain individual!

I like looking at the old pics etc and old reg numbers are great to see!

Stopping threads and throwing magazines away is not the answer, DVLA should make log book applications tougher and require a bit more information about the vehicle etc

No matter how you have your house in order this kind of thing really should not be happening, I had not received any letter from DVLA so have never had the option to appeal! It was only due to a court summons for not notifying the DVLA of change of keeper that alarm bells started ringing!
We have a large number of vehicles to look after with the company and private vehicles so we do have a very strict filling system in place.

This is all due to a conman stealing V5's 😡
